National Voter Registration Day
Why not "shanghai" this day and use it for OUR purposes? All I ask is that each and every one of us reach TWO people today or by October 16th. You don't have to talk politics, you don't have to talk candidates, just keep it basic and simple.
"Hey Bob, are you registered to vote? You know this is a very important year and a very important election on November 6th." Something simple and unobtrusive like that. You'll be amazed at how many of your friends, family, neighbors and others are not registered.
We also need to reach out to those who have become "inactive" voters for whatever reason. It is estimated that 115,000 Republicans are "inactive". Here's a good question to ask yourself and then other folks: "did I (you) receive a ballot in May of this year? How about November of last year?" You can also go to this website to find out if you are registered.
Though I am NOT a fan of Oregon's mail in voting procedure, I acknowledge it is most likely here to stay and though I am NOT a fan of the current Secretary of State, this site is the easiest way to get registered or to register yourself and it's easy to send this link to others: OREGON VOTER REGISTRATION.
So, don't let the "sponsors" of this site take away the importance of getting registered to vote TODAY!!
The Twitter hashtag for today is: #925NVRD

Oregon is God's Blessing
My wife and I took a 400 or so mile round trip motorcycle ride from our home in Keizer to Warm Springs, Oregon over the last few days. I commented to her upon returning late yesterday: "can you believe that in about 175 miles we went from 104 degree temp, bone dry high desert land to tall Ponderosa pine forests to near the top of Mt. Hood to incredible forests of Fir trees to the good old Willamette Valley? A few more miles and it would be Coast Range and then the beach!"
Oregon really is God's precious gift to man.
While in Warm Springs I ran into and spent some time chatting with Gov. Vic Atiyeh, Oregon's last (sadly) GOP governor. He listens to my show! He is very concerned about the state of affairs in Oregon and gave me a real boost of enthusiasm to continue what I do!
It's been said that perhaps I was "too hard" on the GOP house representatives who went to the strip club.
After speaking with my sources inside the Legislature, I know a lot more about the situation and will comment on my show today.
The situation is NOT as simple as "boys will be boys" and a strip club. There is much more going on behind the scenes. When I have permission to further elaborate, I will, otherwise, listen today at noon on AM 1430 KYKN or online at www.1430kykn.com or at www.bpshow.com to hear what I have to say.

It Must Be Great Having a State of Oregon Job
First we had the State of Oregon Department of Revenue doing NOTHING to the at least 3 employees who allowed a Salem woman to steal $2.1 million in a tax fraud case. "State officials declined to release the names of the affected employees
or more details about the type of discipline involved. Discipline could
involve pay freezes or reductions, but there was no word on whether
either was involved." They won't even let us know which incompetent boobs let this happen.
NOW, we have a State Treasury spokesperson who runs over a man trying to cross a street. A traffic ticket?
I was just asking Justin, my producer, this morning before the second story came out: "say what do you think it would take to get fired if you were a State worker?" We both agreed, MAYBE......murder. Sheesh, were we wrong!

From Enterprise to Salem: "What are you guys doing?"
I spent the last weekend in beautiful Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa Lake, Oregon. As I walked around the Wallowa County Fair (which by the way, was exactly like the county fairs I grew up with), the word got out that I was some sort of talk show host. Though I am on a Salem station, I guess someone, I am sure a complete nutjob, had heard of me. The questioning then began. "What is going on with you crazy Valley people?" and other similar queries.
It seems the folks in Wallowa County are actually CONSERVATIVES, and they don't understand nor do they care for us "city folk" and the "stupid decisions" being made here in the Willamette Valley.
I carefully explained to them "IT'S NOT ALL OF US, PLEASE!!! I told them how basically FOUR Valley counties rule our entire state and those 4 counties HATE anything that remotely smacks of God, America or Conservatism.
That didn't seem to placate them, but at least they understood that not ALL of us over here in the Willamette Valley are completely nuts! They just wanted to know why "we", meaning residents of the Willamette Valley, were letting the Legislature and Governor Kulongoski get away with all that they did in the last session. They understood very clearly how devastating the new tax increases, JOB KILLING TAXES, really are. One might think "aw heck those people are nothing but a bunch of redneck cowboys who couldn't spell their own names". One would be correct, at least that is what THEY think WE think! No, au contraire, they are REALLY smart people and they know a stinker when they see one and that is why they continue to elect some of the smartest people in Oregon, to the Legislature.
The good people of Wallowa, Union, Baker and other rural counties just feel like they have been left completely out of the political picture. Sure they are few, but aren't they still Oregonians? Why must we live with a system that allows 4 counties to run this entire state? Please, someone enlightnen me?

Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal
As discussed on today's show:
Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal
Here is an example of why hiring illegal alien is not economically productive for the State of Oregon...OR ANY OTHER STATE.
You have 2 families..."Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have 2 parents, 2 children and live in Oregon. (Same applies to any State)
"Joe Legal" works in construction, has a Social Security Number, and makes $25.00 per hour with payroll taxes deducted....
"Jose Illegal" also works in construction, has "NO" Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".
Joe Legal....$25.00 per hour x 40 hours $1000.00 per week, $52,000 per year
Now take 30% away for state federal tax
Joe Legal now has $31,231.00
Jose Illegal...$15.00 per hour x 40 hours $600.00 per week, $31,200.00 per year
Jose Illegal pays no taxes...
Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00
Joe Legal pays Medical and Dental Insurance with limited coverage
$1000.00 per month
$12,000.00 per year
Joe Legal now has $19,231.00
Jose Illegal has full Medical and Dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year
Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00
Joe Legal makes too much money is not eligible for Food Stamps or welfare
Joe Legal pays for food
$1,000.00 per month
$12,000.00 per year
Joe Legal now has $ 7,231.00
Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for Food Stamps and Welfare
Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00
Joe Legal pays rent of
$1,000.00 per month
$12,000.00 per year
Joe Legal is now in the hole... minus (-) $4,769.00
Jose Illegal receives a $500 per month Federal rent subsidy
Jose Illegal pays rent
$500.00 per month
$6,000.00 per year
Jose Illegal still has $25,200.00
Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.
Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.
Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school..
Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches
Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch.
Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program.
Joe Legal's children go home.
*Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same Police and Fire Services,
** but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

Oregon: Home of Abortion, Assisted Suicide and now Hemp!
Yes, we are a PROGESSIVE state we are!
Oregon, the home of self service gas, legislature that only meets every two years, high income taxes (second only to New York City), the leader in assisted suicides and of course one of the leaders in the abortion industry, now is in the business of growing WEED!
At the last minute as the Legislature was "getting outta Dodge" they passed a bill that would allow the production, commerce and possession of "hemp" products and add industrial hemp to crops grown by farmers.
YES I know this isn't Pot, but it's close enough for me.
It just shows what a wacky place we have become. I don't give a rat's turd what GREAT THINGS CAN BE MADE FROM HEMP blah blah blah. All I see are scads of potheads rejoicing in Eugene!
I love my state. Not.

Former Blazer Helping Kids Get in Shape!
I found this story while researching the upcoming Portland Trailblazer season. It's so good to find some of the great old Blazers from the past still in our community doing good things!
On September 19th, Trail Blazers Ambassador Jerome Kersey, along with members from the PEAK Coalition (Physical Education for All Kids), testified before Oregon’s Joint Ways and Means Committee to secure additional funding for the PE grant bill established last session by HB 3141. The bill is aimed at providing equal opportunities for schools across the state with the resources and training they need to provide evidence-based PE instruction to all Oregonian kids.
Kersey was joined by Oregon State Senate President Peter Courtney and Isabella Acosta Barna, a youth advocate and member of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation Youth Advisory Board, in providing testimony to support the critical need for physical education for kids. “As an athlete and as a father I can attest to the significant life experiences afforded to me and my daughter through sports and physical education,” said Kersey. “I know firsthand the correlation between being physically fit and the ability to perform in other areas of your life, most importantly education, at a high level.”
The results of recent studies regarding childhood obesity in Oregon were what brought Kersey to take a stand. 25 percent of Oregon’s 8th graders are overweight or at risk for becoming overweight and this number has been increasing. The rise in childhood obesity is partly due to the fact that physical education is no longer a mandatory part of the school day. Lack of PE not only leads to overweight, unhealthy children, but also makes children less ready to learn in the classroom. The cost of obesity is alarming: $781 million was spent in Oregon in 2003 on obesity-related medical costs.
Members of the House and Senate were present to hear Kersey’s testimony including Portland-area Senators Margaret Carter and Avel Gordly. “Jerome, you introduced yourself as an ambassador for the Portland Trail Blazers,” Gordly said in closing comments. “I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone here in saying you are indeed an ambassador on behalf of the entire state of Oregon and we thank you for your years of dedication to service to our state’s children.”

Oregon: Blue or Red State?
The question has been posed to me, "isn't Oregon a Blue state?"
My answer was and is, "no". Only 3 or 4 counties are, but the vast majority of Oregon is staunch Republican.
Unfortunately most of those counties are rural, but they count just the same. So, outside of Portland and Eugene, the ENTIRE FREAKING STATE is Republican.
Yes, I know, the POPULATION base is in those counties, but look at the House and Senate. All led by Republicans, so, are we red or blue? You decide.
This has always been a rural, conservative, logging, fishing, hunting, outdoors state, only since the late 1960's when the hippies from San Francisco stumbled north to Eugene and Portland did our politics change and that is shown out by the county by county vote. The old hippies, don't live in the rural areas which is of course very funny and ironic. They come here to "get away from it all and get one with nature" then move to the two biggest cities in the state! Goofs. Same thing happening to Montana, so there is nowhere to escape to now.

Oregon Baseball Fans.......I love em!
Only good Oregonian baseball fans would stay for 9 innings of a wet, dreary baseball game, when the home team is getting drilled 13-3!!
I took this photo with my cell phone from my warm and dry press box seat, where I am the public address announcer for the Salem-Keizer Volcano's.
It rained all game long, just not enough to cause the field to be bad enough for the umpires to call the game. So, we watched a horrible game and the 400 or so fans got soaked.
I just love the picture, this die hard couple had their raingear and umbrellas up the whole game and never left until the bitter end.
If you are not from Oregon, then you can't quite appreciate 62 degrees and drizzles that don't really soak, just make you miserable. Baseball in Oregon!

Gay Marriage In Oregon, We Need To Vote
This came to me from my friend David Crowe from Restore America:
The Challenge Before Us
Status of Initiatives 144-145-146
April 25, 2008
Of growing concern to the Concerned Oregonians Leadership Team, including Hub Leaders and our Circulators, is the diminishiing time to gather Initiative Petition signatures for Initiatives 144 and 145. Many have asked why it is taking so long. The below synopsis of the history and current challenges to Oregonian's right to VOTE on the two most culturally devastating and detrimental bills in Oregon history is provided for your information, prayer, and action.
The Early Battle
At the end of the Legislative Session last summer, State law allowed only 90 days to turn in 55,000 valid signatures on each of two Referendums (303 and 304) in order to place by HB 2007 and SB 2 on the November 2008 Ballot. The date for submission of those signatures was September 26th.
Former State Senator Marylin Shannon, formed an organization called Defense of Marriage, Again and filed the two original referendums.
With the encouragement of several well known Oregon leaders, I formed Concerned Oregonians to aid Senator Shannon in the collection of signatures. Of the 63,000 signatures that were delivered to the Elections Division on each referendum, approximately 50,000 were gathered by Concerned Oregonians.
Confronting the State of Oregon
With the determined action of Christians throughout Oregon, we DID get the signatures. The Elections Division, however, along with several County Clerks, unlawfully removed just enough valid signatures to ensure we would not meet the state requirement. With the sacrificial aid of several volunteers, we commenced a time consuming journey in October and November in concert with the Alliance Defense Fund, to find and persuade unlawfully invalidated signers to become plaintifs in the law suit that was filed in early December, and granted a hearing on December 28th. On that date the District Federal Judge denied HB 2007 from becoming law on January 1st, and scheduled Feb 1st, for a full hearing.
From October through January, the entire effort at the behest of ADF was conducted by myself and a team of Concerned Oregonians volunteers.
Refiling as Initiatives
On February 1, the day of the Federal Court hearing in Portland, Senator Shannon indicated to the media that she would be filing two initiatives so the people could VOTE on both bills. Shortly thereafter she wrote a guest editorial for The Oregonian confirming same. She also changed the name of her organization from Defense of Marriage, Again, to "Let Oregon Vote" and advised me that her legal effort was well underway with several state legislators committed to be Chief Petitioners.
On February 29th Initiative 144 was filed in order to place HB 2007 on the November Ballot. Initiative 145 was filed the following Monday, March 3rd.
Those dates commenced a process under Oregon Law that we cannot change.
The Ballot Title Certification Process
The Attorney General has 10 business days from the date of filing the Initiatives, to prepare a 'draft ballot'. The draft ballot for 144 was announced on March 10th, and 145 on the 11th.
Then commences a 10 business days window for public 'comment' meaning that individuals or organizations with their attorneys can file legal papers objecting to the draft wording of the AG. Basic Rights Oregon, and the ACLU attorney, as expected, filed their objections the very last day, March 24th.
The Attorney General then has another 10 business days to present to the Secretary of State a 'certified ballot title' with explanatory letter. That occurred on April 8th, at which time an appeal period of 10 more business days is allowed for 'any elector' (In this case Basic Rights Oregon and the ACLU) "may petition the (OR) Supreme Court for a different title." That ended at 5PM on April 22nd, at which time BRO and the ACLU appealed to the Oregon Supreme Court.
(This same process applies to Initiatives 145 and 146)
The Oregon Supreme Court
The AG's Ballot Wording for 144 and 145 is now before the Oregon Supreme Court, a court with the most openly 'gay' Justices of any state supreme court in the nation.
This Court could decide quickly - which is unlikely without pressure from the public - leaving us about the same amount of time they allowed for the Defense of Marriage Coalition to come up with over 100,000 signatures, or...they could take their time, which would make it very, very hard if not impossible to come up with those signatures, unless we are extremely well organized throughout the State with many churches onboard, their congregations informed and ready to sign the petitions.
Our Challenge:
Initiative 144 is legally flawed and apparently beyond use. Now corrected, it has been refiled, by Marylin Shannon, as Initiative 146.
The process described above is underway on 146, and it may well be too late to get to the people for signature and then to the Elections Division by the deadline, which is July 3rd.
The likelihood is that we will have just enough time to get enough signatures for 145 on the ballot, but not 146.
The Arm of the LORD is not too short!
The need now is for steadfastness, not faintheartedness, faith, not doubt and unbelief. God loves to work miracles especially when the unbelieving think it is impossible.
If Christians around the state arise to meet the challenge, we can obtain the 100+ thousand signatures in only a few weeks, but we will have to believe God, do what is necessary to prevail, and pray the LORD will spur the Oregon Supreme to act 'expeditiously' as the law requires, with no excuses.
Please stand with all those in Restore America and Concerned Oregonians who have worked diligently but have had no control over the legal work, the filings, and the judges. Fortunately, He does! Ask the brethren everywhere, including our pastors, to pray that the Body of Christ does not lose heart.
Pray for Marylin Shannon. She has labored in sickness and pressure, and I know this is burdensome for her. Pray for all of us, and the Body of Christ in Oregon. If we press on and do not lose heart, this could become the greatest victory in Oregon history....and all... to the Glory of God.
Sincerely,
David Crowe

"Sexy" Mayor of Arlington Is Out!
(The photo below is a bit racy, although I have seen MUCH MUCH Worse at the local Courthouse pool in the summer! If you might be offended I am sorry, but it is vital to understand the story. Thank you in advance for your latitude.)
So, not that I approve of, nor am I a fan of MySpace, but when this story broke a month ago or so, I thought it was pretty funny.
This young lady became mayor of Arlington and proceeded to increase the budget, get some new income for this small town and in general was doing very well as mayor according to the townsfolks.
Then, someone in town, rumored to be a teacher at the High School, found her MySpace page and the story was all over the world.
Well, this story has ended. From the Associated Press:
Voters in Arlington, population about 500, voted narrowly on Monday night to recall Carmen Kontur-Gronquist.
The tally was 142-139. City officials said the recall is effective today.
Kontur-Gronquist said the pictures of her in black bra and panties were taken for use in a contest about fitness, but a relative posted them on MySpace in hopes it would improve the social life of the single mother.
They predated her election, but she said she saw no reason to take them off the popular Web site once elected three years ago. Later, she closed access to them.
Opponents said it wasn’t fitting for the mayor to be so depicted. They said they also disagreed with her on issues about water and the local golf course.
Now, the interesting thing is, there are all kinds of stories online about the woman who let the story out. Here are some quotes I found about the teacher:
That woman, Lorena Woods, has no place to point fingers at anybody. Is she still teaching? Cause she shouldn't be. She was my 7th and 8th grade teacher. She was a child herself, she thought she was a popular teenager. She would degrade "uncool" students in front of the "cool" students, just for her entertainment, and to make herself more popular with the "cool" students. I could list of few things that she did that is completely unacceptable to do as an authority figure to students. Its hard enough to be a teenager, the kids don't need a teacher to pick on them too. She was a horrible, HORRIBLE teacher. And she would take her little teachers pets on day trips, hockey games, sleep overs at her house. She was their friend and not their teacher, and you think if they were to do something wrong in class they would get in trouble no! And if a student had a hygiene problem, wouldn't you think she would talk to them privately, NO not her, she would discuss it in front of the whole class. She threw tic-tacs at a student in front of everyone, so her pets could have a good laugh. She would look at one of her pet students with a sense of gratifaction after humiliating another student. She does not need to be teaching.
Lorena if you think Carmen did such a bad thing by posting her photo's on My Space ( the most important word being My) then what do you think the resident's of Arlington should do with you for taking your 8th grade class to Hooters? Ye with-out sin cast the first stone. If you spent as much time helping your students instead of being of the mentality of their age group and gossiping among the students effecting the lives of these student to the point of suicide then you might be more effective in these young peoples lives. Yes I said suicide, you know what I'm talking about. Shame on you for being one of the problems in theses students lives instead of helping solve their problems. You should not be a teacher. In face I wouldn't trust you to care for my dog.
There is more on this story: the lady that seems to be most upset, the Teacher as quoted about above, is evidently making a power play now herself. Her mother has been proposed as the new Mayor!! Will have to follow this story further!
All I can say is, I am very glad that our own Janet Taylor has not done a MySpace photo session:
