Now that Barry Bonds did it....

John Connor-Home Run King Before Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron or Barry Bonds

We can forget about him. I know this will drive the ladies away, but for the few baseball fans who may be secretly reading, please comment.

1 - How many people can't wait for A-Rod to pass Bonds????

2 - Who really is the "home run king"? Aaron? Bonds? Babe Ruth!!! Why? He hit all of his home runs during the "dead ball" era. For those who don't know what that was, the ball was not tossed out during the game like we do now even for some little league games. Unless the ball flew out of the park, it stayed in. It was soft, dirty, muddy, spit and tobacco covered and it did not fly well. It was also made of a different material at it's core which did not have the same "bounce" as the later balls did. Talk about being juiced up too, Ruth drank massive quantities of beer, ate hot dogs by the dozens, smoked cigars, stayed up all night and still could hit that dead ball out of the park most days. In comparison, Babe Ruth hit more home runs in one year, 1927 then most teams combined. He also passed the home run king at the time Roger Connor who had 138. So, when Ruth hit his 714th home run, the next guy was over 200 behind him. Now there are a dozen or more with over 500 home runs.

Babe Ruth may have used steroids if he were alive today, Aaron probably wouldn't have, but Bonds DID!

3 - Of the three "BIG" baseball records that no one thinks will ever be broken, which do you think might have a chance to be broken?

A - Cal Ripken Jr.'s Iron Man record

B - Ted Williams last player to hit .400 in 1941.

C - Joe DiMaggio hits in 56 consecutive games also in 1941

Now ladies, if this subject bores you, or men, if it bores you, bring to whatever pleases you, but I am curious as to how the general public feels about the whole Bonds thing.

Baseball my friends, it's fun to discuss. Jump in with your take!

John Connor, huh? Wasn't he the love-child of Linda Hamilton in "The Terminator?"

I think the whole Barry Bonds home-run record is pretty anti-climactic. But when you stop and think about it, that's a heckuva lot of home runs! However, when placed into the context of the "real world", he's overpaid, it's just a game and he's just a man. When placed into Biblical context, I'd like to see Barry outrun a chariot wearing a loincloth! Elijah'd leave him in the dust!!!

Hey!! Don't put us ladies in a box. Many a girl loves sports...

I have nothing to say, however.

Ok first of all Jenny I did say men too! :)
Now Mick, you mean you can't see Barry "girding his loins and running"?
and no props for the research on john connor? not that one the baseball one.
Besides john connor sent himself back or forwards or something and then he was born or wasn't and he was his own dad or something like that, I get lost.

Bill,
I vote for Charlie Mack!

I also agree with Jenny, I like baseball, after all, that's why I fell in love with Dan. I'm a sucker for those funny white pants.

Seriously, you are right about Bonds having an unfair advantage. That was my same point about Joey over Apollo on Dancing with the Stars. Fortunately, America voted with me and Apollo won. Too bad we couldn't control this area too.

Now, your "Funny Thing ..." story is on Tina's blog. She had great suggestions. I'm surprised you sent her the 9000 version instead of the corrected 7000 version. She only wants the first 1500 words for FREE. You really need to learn how to cut and paste into a new document.

Once you make her changes on your 7000 version, send it to me and I'll post it on StoryContest.

Thanks.

Well I will have to vote for one and say, no one will ever play in the amount of games that Cal Ripken played in. That one is safe.
