Oregon: Blue or Red State?

The question has been posed to me, "isn't Oregon a Blue state?"
My answer was and is, "no". Only 3 or 4 counties are, but the vast majority of Oregon is staunch Republican.
Unfortunately most of those counties are rural, but they count just the same. So, outside of Portland and Eugene, the ENTIRE FREAKING STATE is Republican.

Yes, I know, the POPULATION base is in those counties, but look at the House and Senate. All led by Republicans, so, are we red or blue? You decide.
This has always been a rural, conservative, logging, fishing, hunting, outdoors state, only since the late 1960's when the hippies from San Francisco stumbled north to Eugene and Portland did our politics change and that is shown out by the county by county vote. The old hippies, don't live in the rural areas which is of course very funny and ironic. They come here to "get away from it all and get one with nature" then move to the two biggest cities in the state! Goofs. Same thing happening to Montana, so there is nowhere to escape to now.

So, you say it's a red state and everyone else says it's blue? I just thought the electoral votes went to Kerry in the last one and to Gore in 2000. I suppose you could argue the same about California that it is supposed to be blue yet we voted in a Republican governor. Thanks for the clarification/confusion...Matt.

Hey I just put the 2004 electorate map up there for all to see.
So, you tell me, are we blue or red.
Can't your eyes determine that without referring to political pundits?
Looks to me like the state is all red?

And where did the Electoral votes go in 2000 and 2004? Just because you have 12 Republicans living outside of Portland and Eugene does not make it a red state...Matt.

I happen to enjoy Bill's blog. It is not law nor does he claim to be perfect. I know him personally and if he makes a mistake you can count on him doing everything he can to do a re-post, but since his blog is just for fun (hints the name-title and famly postings) I don't think you need to be so criticle and prove him wrong. You seem to be spending more time on his site critisizing him more than he spends on it. Oh yea, just in case you will be posting a re-buttle to critisize me - I also am not perfect and am a horrible speller nor do I have the time to get the dictionary out to look up the words. I have better things to do like spending my time with my 8 month prego belly, two kids, and my husband. Matt, try spending more time with your family. In the mean time, I will be praying for you to find something better to occupy your time with other than to harrass and try to prove other wrong.

As requested, here is your rebuttal...I was directed to this blog several months ago by doing some research on Vets For Freedom. I enjoy seeing viewpoints outside of mine and encourage others to do so. I do not know Bill but that is not my concern. I have simply responded to his posts regarding political and social issues--especially when those are BLATANTLY false. I don't imagine that spreading lies is the goal of the site. Having opinions is what makes this country great. Having misguided or ill-informed opinions is how we end up with George Bush and illegally invading Iraq. Yes, whether you believe it or not, we violated international law, rendering it illegal...

My goal here is not to be overly critical but to ask some questions about what I might see as part of the larger picture. Perhaps some part of the story was missed, ignored, or not looked at from all sides--whatever those sides may be. This blog is on the public internet and if that is a problem, maybe these thoughts should be kept private or a membership should be instituted to keep people like me from insulting your sensibilities. However misguided those might be...

You getting personal toward me is of more concern than anything. Bill does not strike me as the kind of man who needs his friends to come to his defense on how I respond to his blog. Why would you care if I spend some free time on here? You know nothing about me yet suggest that I spend more time with my family. You are doing the same thing that I am--reading and responding to a blog. I am more concerned that you are raising kids and don't know how to spell or bother knowing how to use a dictionary. And if Bill thinks I am harrassing him, he can block my responses. Have you not read anything Bill posts on here? He has clearly stated that this is his site and he will post what he wants. As long as this is on our internet, I will respond in kind to anything I see as necessary. I could especially do without you telling me how to spend my free time. But, thanks for the prayers...I need all the help I can get.
Matt.

Matt, boy, don't you know better than to mess with a pregnant woman! Didn't yo mama teach you nothin?

Seriously, matt you are right, you have every right to post here and as long as it's clean, you are more than welcome. Just remember, this blog thing is mostly read by a few goofy friends and family members and is just as the name says: A WASTE OF AIR (radio terminology that doesn't really make sense but it fits me).
So, don't take much of what I say too seriously, no one else does.

Matt, I don't think you nor I ever REALLY tell the truth, why? Because we don't really know. Oh heck we can spin all we want but what is the truth?
There is only one ABSOLUTE TRUTH!
The Word of God. God loves you and he loves me.
I would challenge you to do just one thing: read the Book of John, whatever translation looks the best to you, but, do one thing differently: stop for a moment, ask God (whether you believe He is there or not) to give you special insight, wisdom and discernment, then read it all in one sitting.
I think you will see how much Jesus Christ did for you and me and how much God the Father loves his children, ALL of His children.
Absolute Truth, it is God's Word. He never changes, and He never leaves us nor forsakes us. He is ever patient, ever loving and more than generous. He is long suffering and full of mercy and grace.
There are a whole bunch of nuts praying for you right now and we mean that genuinely. Hope you will accept this in the spirit it is extended, with love.

Meanwhile, ........GO DUCKS!!!

Well, I certainly have no intentions of upsetting a pregnant woman. And, yes, my momma did teach me well. I am the oldest of 9, so I should know better.

I'm just surprised at why anyone would care about my opinions on your blog. I understand that most people rely on someone else to provide them information on social issues, politics, and religion; a sort of intellectual welfare, if you will. I enjoy non-confrontational discourse on these subjestc and believe I have conducted myself accordingly. I just took issue with the birth certificate post because it wasn't true and it doesn't take reading the Bible to illustrate the fact. And, if you look at the same county by county map of California, it looks red as well. By the way, Oregon has had a long history of Democrats in all offices along with Republicans, so I would disagree, surprisingly, that it has been conservative throughout its history. Besides, being represented by Senators like Bob Packwood, who wouldn't vote for the other side from time to time? Matt.

Need I say more? Nope. Bill you said it all! Very well might I add.
Praise God, we are all praying for you Matt.

Hey all! I really appreciate the prayers. I'm not much for religion, but it's nice to hear. I am curious as to why nobody answers any questions around here. You post false news stories and others from less than credible sources and when they are pointed out, you bring up religion. No wonder the religious right so sheepishly votes for the guy who panders best. Time to wake up and start thinking for yourselves from time to time. I promise your god will be proud of you...Matt.

Matt I don't mean to be critical, but this is really important. Correction. G-o-d. God is proud of us. My pleasure to pray for you friend.

I guess I'm not quite there yet. I don't believe in the same religion as you, so I don't capitalize "god" since I believe in "a god", not "the God". Look up Mithra and then the Council of Nicaea in 326 A.D. and you'll get a better understanding of why I feel the way I do about Christianity and the Bible. Thanks again for the prayers...Matt.
And for the record, "God" gave you a brain to think for yourself. Wouldn't he be upset if you weren't using it to think freely?

I am VERY familiar with the Counsel of Niacea and I am not sure what you are trying to refer to?
God, through His Holy Spirit inspired Godly men as to what would make up His Word.
That requires faith, just as the entire idea of God requires faith. You either got faith or you don't got faith (pardon the English).
Science, history, archealogy, chemistry, any man made thing will ever prove God exists.
Rather than try to prove He does or doesn't exist, why not just walk into the Light. The Light that was there at the beginning and will be there forever!

Amy,
your comments will not immediately post as I have had to moderate again, since our friend insists on trying to bait me with nasty words and name calling.
Perhaps when he gets out of his mom's basement, gets married, finds a job and sees life in that respect, I will let him back in.
