What's going on with the Oregon House GOP?

I truly believe in the Reagan rule: "We don't eat our own" but, lately I am not completely sure what's going on with our Republican leadership in the Oregon House.

First of all you may have read or heard of Rep. Vickie Berger (along with Republicans Cliff Bentz and Bill Garrard) leading the charge on suspending the voter approved Measure 57. Now I know we have a budget problem and I know that some believe we can't afford this measure but the people passed it and it is not the legislature's job to overturn the will of the people.
I also understand the concept that each representative has their own agendas and their own ideals and don't have to go along with the rest of the caucus all the time, but that break from the group should always be on issues that are good for Oregon and true to what they want.
My question to the leadership of the House GOP: you have got to have a little more control over the caucus members. Perhaps a little more leadership?

Second: the redistricting issue. I am happy that we have a Legislative Redistricting deal done. I know that the Democrats had the GOP up against the wall with numbers and the Secretary of State as a threat, but, did we really need to throw Rep. Patrick Sheehan and Rep. Jason Conger under the bus? Sheehan loses the majority of what he won in 2010 in what was a very difficult race in which he had numbers against him. Now he has 35,000 voters from Multnomah County added to his new district when he was only 130 voters short of meeting the requirements to keep his current district intact. He told me today that "the whole process is gerrymandering, period". He also said when asked how this affects the next election, "I have to step back and really look at the next election". Will all of the hard work he put into his district now have to be done all over again to a completely different constituency and the friendships and promises made to those people all be for nothing?

With Rep. Conger it is much the same story although not to the extent of Sheehan's. In what is a mostly Conservative area, the one small Democrat stronghold is Downtown Bend. His "new" district is missing all of it's old parts. The rural farming and ranching communities around the city. As he stated to me today on the whole redistricting plan: "it was designed incorrectly". Both of these gentlemen made it very clear they still support the leadership and they will certainly still fight hard for their constituents but I could sense the great disappointment in both of their voices that as Freshman Republican House Members, they may not have been treated in the most equitable fashion.

I just have to wonder why the GOP leadership is not being more proactive and a little bit more assertive. We don't always have to compromise. We could, just once in awhile, make a stand.
I also want to make it clear that this is not an attack on the GOP in the House overall, just some fine tuning needed. Perhaps it's been so long since they've had any share of the "gavel", they've forgotten what it means to have a little more "say" in the Oregon Legislature! For that, I am grateful. The 30/30 split this year was one of the more productive (fewer stupid bills) and least rancorous in memory. It tells me too, that come 2012, with a lot more work, the GOP could win that ONE more seat it needs to take back the majority but this redistricting issue will have to be addressed again some day and the leadership needs to do a much better job of keeping their "people" in line.

Craig Schelske Victorious in Lawsuit

Craig Schelske just announced he won a settlement out of court with the attorneys who represented his ex-wife Sara Evans, the country star, in his suit claiming slander and defamation of character.
Craig has been battling for this day for nearly 2 years. This is not only a victory for Craig personally but for all people who have been trampled on and dragged through the mud in a divorce. He is working with a new non-profit organization to help those who have been through this type of situation called Families Unite dot org. The attorney he sued was John Hollins Sr. a very prominent and powerful attorney to "the stars" of Nashville.
If this had gone to court, some of your favorite Country Music stars would have been dragged in and it would have gotten very ugly. This attorney and his staff went beyond the norms to smear Craig and now he has defeated this very powerful firm and kept faithful to his Christianity!
This is just one of the many ways Craig was STILL being attacked as recently as last summer: SATAN HAS CRAIG'S MIND!
Now, the good news:

From Craig today: "After nearly 5 years the self-proclaimed "attorney to the stars", Nashville’s , or better yet, "Music City's" finest divorce attorney, recipient of the much coveted Best Lawyer’s Award, who represented such notables as Trisha Yearwood and LeAnn Womack, oh, and Sara Evans, surrendered yesterday to little ‘ol me."

Also this from Craig: "Hollins (Nashville’s finest) has to pay me a settlement, issue an apology, and I am completely free to tell my entire story. My enemy folded under the pressure that the truth was going to decimate him and prove his public statement was a lie and his actions pure buffoonery. I am so grateful to God and to all of my true friends!!! More on this later…"

WHY CHRIS DUDLEY LOST

I knew this day was coming and have held my tongue and played the good “team player” game. Well, being a “team player” didn’t sit well with me and now here we are.

All the way back in February and March of 2010, several people, very prominent in the Conservative movement and the Republican Party, met with Chris Dudley and his campaign staff. These people spoke very clearly to Mr. Dudley. He was advised, urgently, to “get rid of those people”. Of course “those people” were the Gordon Smith insiders including Dan Lavey and Kerry Timchuck. Later, Brittany Brammel and LeRoy Coleman and other “outsiders”.

To their faces, they were told that they could not win this election, that Chris had to surround himself with Oregonians, and especially Oregonians who understand Oregon, not just the Portland Metro area. Chris was told during several long meetings, before the primary mind you, that he had a real chance to win if he listened now! Chris chose to go with the plan they had laid out for him and now we see the results.

Chris Dudley was a creation of Gordon Smith insiders who left Oregon after Gordon lost but came back to “create” another moderate candidate for office. Now, these same people will go back to D.C., with a little bit more money in their pocket, a little smudge against their pride but nothing else will change in their lives, yet they leave us in this mess!

The Libertarian (limited government) and Constitution (far right conservative) candidates each pulled more votes than the margin of victory for Kitzhaber. I had to explain on many occasion after the primary to my friends, family and radio listeners, that Dudley would be surrounded by good Republicans after the election and to take comfort in that. Why did I have to explain it that way? Because person after person was concerned about Dudley’s moderate to liberal stance on everything except fiscal issues. I am afraid that many of those same people either voted for the “other party” candidates or they left the Governor unchecked on their ballot.

We have tried again and again to win with moderate candidates from the Portland business crowd who promise solid fundraising. This year, we had the establishment GOP candidate, and he lost against the most complete insider, old way of government liberal in a year in which the entire Nation was in the midst of a true Conservative tidal wave of support, and they swept in limited government insurgent outsiders while we here in Oregon are left with Kitzhaber.

One thing that this election showed is that money alone will not win a statewide Republican race (same in California). It will take a good ground game with really energized folks. Those folks just could not “pull the lever” for Chris Dudley.

Instead of trying to please the middle, instead of trying to sound like you are not going to make any waves and play nice with the folks who have dug Oregon into this hole, what the Dudley campaign should have said is: “this State requires a complete makeover and I will be the one to do that even if it means only one term, I will stick to Conservative principles and will surround myself with strong Conservatives and I will not sleep until Oregon is the back in the condition it deserves to be in. That means that some old pictures are going to fall off of the wall.”

People will vote Republican if a Republican articulates a strong and exciting limited government message. A message delivered with a sense of commitment and passion.

Most of all, in the next gubernatorial primary, the Republicans should run a true Conservative, stop pandering to the Portland crowd and Republican voters should listen less to the folks with all the money and more to the candidates who run on a limited government message, and stay true to our Conservative ideals, the ones that made America a strong refuge.

Today, the day after the mid-term election where the Republicans have regained control of the House after 4 years out of power the question is, will Obama pivot to the center like Bill Clinton in '94? The answer is yes and no.

He will make pledges to work with "the other side". He will moderate his rhetoric to appear as though he is sensitive to the voice of the people. This will be dis-arming for the Republicans but they must understand his strategy. Obama feels that his vision for our country is a highly developed understanding of what is best for society in general. This comes from the consensus that he and his deeply intellectual academics have conceived in the sequestered existence of their Ivy League lecture halls and tenured government positions.

Governing in a Representative Republic is not what he has in mind. Making changes toward his goals through administrative and near impossible to repeal legislation is a much more effective approach. This is what he and the Democrats have accomplished, against the will of the majority of Americans, in a quick 2 years. While the Republicans have been scratching their heads as to why the Democrats would commit political suicide they have pushed an agenda through that will be reversed over his politically dead body. Obama is not a politician like Clinton, he is a revolutionary. He has already set into motion changes and precedence that will not be easily be corrected. Waiting to see if Obama is going to meet in the middle is a waste of time. The people have given their opinion of the direction we have been dragged, kicking and screaming the whole way. Now is the time for a hard line in the sand and an all out effort to undo the damage. In other words, he will not pivot.

Oregon SOS Kate Brown: Her "rules" vs. Oregon Constitution

Petition 50, the Redistricting Initiative that backers were hoping would be on the November ballot is in serious jeopardy right now. (Here is a story from back in April from the Oregonian that does a good job of explaining the initiative)
The initiative needed 110,358 signatures and election officials say that 125,948 were gathered. Sounds good right? Wrong. As of this writing, the Secretary of State's office has "disqualified" or thrown out, 12,975 signatures for various reasons.

Now you might think that Kate Brown's office has good reason and perhaps even Oregon Constitutional law behind her to do this, right? Wrong. The Oregon Constitution mandates that signatures be verified. There is a process for that. What the Constitution does NOT mandate is throwing signatures out! It is silent on that. So, what we have here is a politician, starting with Bill Bradbury and now continued with Kate Brown, changing the game so to speak. If her office does not want an initiative to hit the ballot, she throws out signatures and that's that.

Here are some examples of reasons for "invalidating" signatures:
If you put a / through the 0 in the date, it's invalid.
If you didn't put the date as: 06/22/10, it's invalid.
If you wrote your spouses name and address and then he or she signed it, it's invalid.
If your black pen ran out of ink and you chose another pen, even a black one, it's invalid.
If you pressed harder on the "B" or any other part of your petition so that it looks like it's been "altered", it's invalid.
The rule requiring an entire sheet of signatures to be thrown out for one error is not a legitimate exercise and is unfair to the others who are represented on that sheet. It is not Constitutional and it is part of the continual attack on Oregon's very unique and wonderful initiative petition process.

Do you think the same "due diligence" was given to the "Marijuana Initiative"? Any of the other initiatives that did make the November ballot?

Tyler Smith, attorney for redistricting initiative said that "about 11% were disqualified before the statistical sampling was done". The process that is mandated by the Oregon Constitution is a statistical process. These 11% were tossed out BEFORE the process.
Mr. Smith is currently filing a lawsuit against Secretary of State Kate Brown and this and the process for this initiative must be completed by August 1st in order for there to be any chance of this initiative to be on the November ballot.

I for one am outraged and if you signed that petition, you should be as outraged as I am and willing to do whatever it takes to stop this blatant abuse of power. I am urging all who read this to call Kate Brown's office at 503-986-1523 or even better, to visit her office today. Her office is in the State Capitol Building, on the first floor in the East wing. Please let her know that you are not going to allow her and her office to continue to kill your voice by way of disqualifying your signature.

Oregon Legislature to have Special Session?

According to news sources this morning, just one week after Democrats rejected the idea of a Special Session of the Legislature that the minority Republican lawmakers had sought, the Democratic lawmakers, led by Senate President Peter Courtney and House Speaker Dave Hunt are now saying "it might be unavoidable".
Gov. Ted Kulongoski, as you know, ordered 9% cuts across the board. Only lawmakers can make specific cuts that are of varying percentages by Oregon Constitutional law. Republicans such as Rep. Bruce Hanna, Rep. Kim Thatcher, Rep. Matt Wingard, Sen. Chris Telfer (by the way, the only CPA in the Legislature) all wanted to come in with a special session, very reluctantly, and make targeted cuts that made sense. We know that the "Back To Basics Budget" proposal from the 2009 Session was tossed in the trash by the Democrats because it didn't address their "pork" spending. Democrats raised the budget by 15.9%. There is money all over the place in "secret places" that have no transparency, according to Sen. Telfer, that could be tapped to get us out of this financial disaster. That is why the Republicans wanted to meet. The Democrats said "no".
NOW, that some of their favorite "pet projects" and some of the State departments that raise the most cash and give the biggest support to Democrats, are in some trouble with Gov. Ted's 9% cuts. That means losing some big time help.
For three weeks, I have been asking on the air "where is the OEA?" Have you noticed there hasn't been so much as a "peep" out of the OEA over:
A) the $150 million the legislature took from the Education budget and gave to DHS?
B) the approximately $282 million that the Governor wants to cut from the Education budget now?
I'll tell you why we didn't hear anything: the OEA was meeting secretly with Hunt, Courtney and the Democrats and plotting the next taxes we will be subjected to in order to "save Oregon" from this budget crisis.

How Quickly our Personal Freedoms can be taken away!

As some of you may know, I have been involved with Avva Cigars and Wine's fight with the Oregon Department of Health and Services (DHS) over whether Avva should have been allowed the "smoke shop exemption" as accorded in the statute.
I have posted before, the law and the application of the exemption. I now bring new evidence that should alarm anyone who is concerned about liberty, freedom and who are against State control.
On my radio show on Monday, from noon to two, I will be reading this evidence along with playing sound files that show a willful denying of the exemption by 4 women who work for DHS, and how that denial has been unlawfully applied and the appeal process by Avva has been intentionally delayed or strategically denied by DHS employees who have used at the least, improper strategy.
See in the photo below, in the middle, an email from Kylie Menagh of DHS in which she brags about how they can delay the process (Miss Menagh refers to herself in various emails as: Tobacco Prevention Coordinator, and in others as: MPH, Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Program). In that same email photo you can see the back and forth emails where these DHS employees begin a process of making up policy and procedure “on the fly” as they did not have any policy or procedure set down to follow.

In another email, Miss Jill Thompson of DHS states that she couldn’t even find Avva Cigars until she “followed her nose” so to speak, when she was on an outing with her “BF and Son” (which by the way, the smoke she smelled was from the Cigarette smokers area at the front door of the Mall, not from Avva). Here is where the “cover up” gets interesting. On Dec. 7, 2009, the decision was made that Avva would be “indefinitely denied” as you can see from the photo of the email below. You will need to click on these images to better see the emails:

Avva was never informed of the “indefinite denial” but was told it’s application was denied on Dec. 10, 2009.

On Dec. 18, 2009, DHS employees began to attempt to conceal their activities by removing all communication regarding Avva’s application process to “telephone communication only”. Why would they do this? Well as you can see by the email below, my radio show had started quite a stir with my listeners who began calling DHS, Marion County and their representatives. One of those representative, Matt Wingard, and his assistant Dawn Phillips even went so far as to begin their own investigation into the matter and to begin to attempt to contact these employee’s own boss, Dr. Bruce Goldberg, head of DHS. By Dec. 30, 2009, Avva requested an opportunity to submit additional material to support it's case to appeal the denial. Avva was not aware of the "indefinite denial" as these were again, internal emails. Avva did not receive a response on this additional information until April 7, 2010. The case is now before a DHS hearing, conducted by DHS. (I bet that will be “objective”?)

Tomorrow, on my radio show, I will go into further detail, the "why" DHS denied Avva's exemption, play audio from the Senate floor of the Legislature as Sen. Prozanski and Sen. Walker actually describe how a "smoke shop located in a mall setting would be exempted" and how DHS employees willfully and purposely have "bent the law" to their own agenda that was best stated by Miss Menagh when she told the owner of Avva (and the owner of Rich's Cigars in Portland): "my mission is to end ALL smoking in Oregon and will do what I can to achieve that goal".

THAT my friends, is what "state control" looks like. Not "state" as in the State of Oregon, but "state" as in "socialist state". A "state" where one's personal and business rights are trampled on by "state" employees who have the power, not voted on by the people, but power handed to them by their employer, The State of Oregon. This is how quickly freedom can be squelched!

I beg you to listen tomorrow to my show, hear the evidence and then contact DHS, Marion County Health and your local Representative and have them look into this matter. It's not about smoking or not smoking. It's about Personal Freedom!

I guess times must be really hard at the Statesman Journal in Salem. They continue to take advertising from Stars Cabaret, and that is their choice, but this time they have gone too far. The ad states: "Thursday, April 8 5pm-8pm LIVE INTERNET SHOW with GARY THE RETARD.
With all that has gone on in the last couple months concerning the use of that word, you would think the S-J would be a bit more sensitive to their readers.
I guess when you are desperate, you take desperation ads.

How to ruin a political campaign in one easy move!

One thing I have always promised my listeners, I will interview and bring to them as many candidates in Oregon as I possibly can this campaign season. With each of those candidates, whether I like them or not, agree with them or not I WILL treat each of them with the respect they deserve. I will never blast them with questions, but rather will ask them in the sneaky, polite way that I am so good at, and get the answer I am looking for to help you.

I say all of this to bring to your attention, once again, it is MONEY that drives these things for many.
Lars Larson has been cozying up very nicely with the Chris Dudley campaign lately. So much so that in their last "interview" Lars actually helped Dudley answer a listener question on Abortion. I read the transcript, it was sick!
NOW the truth can be told. The owner of Lar's radio station, Larry Wilson of KXL donated $50,000 to the Dudley campaign. Gee, ya think that had anything to do with Lars's love affair? May I remind the reader that this is not new for Lars.
In the last governor race, he started the campaign firmly in Jason Atkinson's camp, fully supporting him and really giving Jason a voice in Oregon.
THEN, all of a sudden "Poof", Atkinson's out and Saxton is the golden boy and we lost again!
Folks, I will NEVER do that. NEVER!!
I may remain a small market talker for my entire life but I will be happy and I will sleep at night.

I am a pretty simple guy. I look for pretty simple solutions. I am seeing WAY too much handwringing, weeping and gnashing of teeth today over the Health Care vote.
Here's the thing: did you really think it wasn't going to pass? If you did, I have a nice piece of property in Brooklyn to sell you.
Now, for those of us who knew this was coming, it's time to get BACK to work.
Here is my "Manifesto" for taking back Oregon and America!

MY PLAN TO TAKE BACK OREGON AND THE NATION

1 – CALL YOUR REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS (THEN CALL THOSE OUTSIDE OF OREGON IF YOU HAVE THE TIME) AND:

Rep. Dave Hunt, the Speaker of the House in the Oregon Legislature has once again used the vile term: "teabaggers" in reference to the Taxpayers Rally in Salem on Monday.

What I am most offended at is his continued defense of his use of the term.
Now, many of you may not even know the sexual definition of the term (I was ignorant of it for most of my life) but suffice to say it is very filthy!

It has just come to my attention that there is a new website out there called:

Revisiting the Avva Cigars Saga with DHS

The process is continuing in the fight for the rights of smokers at Avva Cigars.
I have acquired the actual transcripts from the Legislature when they were discussing SB571 which became the Smoke Free Workplace Law.
Note the points made by the Senator quoted:

It clarifies that smokes shops may sell alcohol in a specific lounge area between the hours of 3 pm and 8 pm.

[Clerk] Senator Prozanski has moved for -9 amendment to Senate Bill 571. Is there any discussion?
[Senator Prozanski] Perhaps I’ll go over the amendment since most of the people here don’t know or have not had an opportunity to hear what the -9 Amendment is about. We had a testimony that was at our first public hearing which was in Eugene at the U of O Law School. And at that time we heard from an individual that actually owns a smoke shop or tobacco shop, and after hearing testimony I was compelled to bring forward the -9 Amendment. The -9 Amendment actually would define a smoke shop as a business that’s primarily engaged in the sale of tobacco products and smoke instruments as defined in the statutes. At least 75% of their gross revenue for the business will have to come from the sale of tobacco products. It will, in fact, prohibit individuals under the age of 18 from entering the premises . It will not allow for lottery gaming or any type of betting on premise. As anybody remembers the individual that gave the testimony talked about having lottery in his establishment . I think that after speaking to most of the committee members, we did not want to see this becoming a loophole for bars to be able to somehow stay in existence as they currently are. So by eliminating – or prohibiting, I should say – any type of gaming and requiring that the primary income come from the sale of tobacco .
And the next part on that component is that it needs to be a stand-alone business meaning that it cannot be structured in an area like what we would call a mall, so the ventilation system will not be tied in to any way, shape or fashion to allow smoke to come out of there.
The testimony that we heard in Eugene … it occurred to me that when you talk about smoke shops where you have cigars or pipe tobacco being sold, it’s not uncommon for individuals who are buying those items to want to test them or sample them. And it seems only right at this stage in our laws in the state, as well as in the country, with tobacco being a legal product, that this would be an appropriate exception to the bill.
It should be noted for those that are here, as we heard in the testimony in Eugene, this individual said everyone that worked for them were smokers because, as he stated, that it’s very important for those individuals to know the tobaccos they are selling and it was just basically common. So though we are concerned about making sure individuals who work in employment situations are not directly impacted by smoke or they have no choice, it appears that you are talking about a very small segment of the population that would be seeking those type of jobs. And, as he said, all of his employees in themselves are, in fact, smokers.

So as you can see, they intended for the "smoke shop" exemption to be for even those stores IN A MALL, IF they have their own ventilation. Avva has it's own HVAC and ventilation and in fact structurally is completely detached from the mall, and Sadeeh has the documentation from the City, the mall and the engineers to prove this. The next step is to meet with DHS to present all of this new information!

Pro Choice Happy Hour CANCELLED!!

Wow, YOU the listeners to the Bill Post Radio Show made this happen!
The owner of the Marco Polo Restaurant has informed the Pro Choice group Oregon Women Lead that they are not wanted and she cancelled the reservation.

I personally spoke to Jackie today and we had a wonderful conversation about the whole situation. It was just as I said on the air last week, she didn't know pro choice, pro life or any politics she is an Asian woman who has not been in America long and just wants to run a restaurant.
She was VERY upset by the calls she received though.
I am also somewhat upset. I clearly told my listeners NOT to blame the restaurant, not to call them and criticize them, but to call out the OWL group AND I specifically said we should all make dinner reservations for Friday night, NOT a protest.
Some people took things into their own hands and really hurt Jackie's feelings. She says she feels very sad for all the hateful things people said. Is that what Pro Life people should be known for?

So, now it's cancelled BUT WE should continue and show our loving support for Jackie and the Marco Polo Restaurant with our business and specifically THIS Friday night. I have made a reservation for 6, will you join me?

Several questions come to my mind when I look at this photo ad:
1 - Why is she looking at his "election" that way?
2 - Is this all we will have left if 66 and 67 pass?
3 - Do these two work for the elections division and if so, should I have checked for STD's before opening my ballot?
4 - Couldn't they find some more normal looking Oregonians?
The left will do ANYTHING to get across their agenda. Even this. Oh well. At least we aren't left with his shortcomings.

Wade. I think they should rename "Oregon Woman Lead" - "Oregon Lead Women"- because any woman who believes that she, or anyone else has a right to kill the life in the womb must have a heart made of lead. I was sickened at the thought of these women munching on their "delish nibbles" at a Happy Hour celebrating such a tragedy. So, I did what any "normal" prolifer would do. I first called the organization. One line was busy, the other seemed like a woman's personal voice mail. Then, I called Marco Polo restaurant and asked to talk to whoever was responsible for reservations. I believe I talked to the owner of the restaurant, and English was not his first language. I talked very calmly and clearly, saying that I wanted to voice my objection to the pro-abortion group that was meeting there on the 22nd. He did not seem shaken, and seemed to understand what I was talking about. He said that they treat everyone equally, and asked for my name and phone number. I calmly explained that I believed that having this group celebrate at this business was equivalent to hosting Ku Klux clansmen, or a Nazi organization. These people were meeting to plot the destruction of more human life; and I wanted to be a voice for life. He could not have been threatened by my phone call unless he completely misunderstood what I was saying. We hung up cordially; or so I thought. About 45 minutes later I got a phone call saying "Is This Faith?" (my first name) I said, "Yup!" and they hung up. An hour later a policeman called, saying some "goob" had called a restaurant- it was a possible prank. I told him that I did indeed call a restaurant to voice my complaint over an organization that was meeting there. He wanted to make sure that there wasn't going to be a protest. I told him that I should not be getting contacted by the police for making a simple phone call, and if there was a protest that would be an entirely different matter, and the police should deal with that if that happened. He then wanted my full name and date of birth. He treated me as if I was a threat and a problem, and would not let me finish a sentence without trying to interrupt me. You know, as if someone else was in the room and he wanted to act as if I was yelling or acting beligerant. He finally said "I'm hanging up now", and did. I feel as if my rights are being stripped away; as if being pro-life suddenly nullifies my voice. My name is now under a case number- I am filed away- to be dealt with as they see fit. After this happened I looked at my children and for the first time REALLY started worrying about what kind of world they will inherit. The fight has become personal now. If people don't see life as a gift and treasure in itself; anyone is expendable. The aged, the handicapped, any children over the one child limit, or anyone who doesn't agree with the government, the list can go on and on. The leap from a woman's right to kill the life within her to the government forcibly taking that life is very short. God bless you in your fight for what is right and most respectful to human life- it is a comfort to have you on the air. Sincerely,

I left her name off for her own privacy.
Later yesterday I called the Salem Police Department to ask them about the case and found that the Marco Polo owner had indeed called the police "concerned that a protest would happen". The detective let them know that a protest is anyone's right and that was the end of the story.
Then, we allowed the emailer to tell her story on the air and her passion and compassion came through better then I could have done by just reading the ad.
We were bombarded with calls and especially after I gave out the names and phone numbers of the two ladies who were asking for RSVP's.
By the way, they have a website: http://oregonwomenlead.com/ and when you go there you will find that our fine Secretary of State, Kate Brown and our State Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo as well!

Many of my listeners called the two ladies and all of them were told "we have your phone number now and will be calling the police". As if that were a threat or something? Several listeners also called the restaurant and talked to the owner.
Here is how one of those conversations went:

Just called the Marco Polo, talked to Jackie, a very pleasent Asian lady who is the owner along with her husband and son. She said that when the OWL group scheduled this event, for the 22nd, she had no idea what they stood for. And they really feel caught in the middle on this. She also let me know that times are really tough for them right now and they need the business.
I told her that OWL has planned this to be a monthly event and that if they continue to meet at Morco Polo's then my family and many others will not frequent their resturant.
I really don't think OWL will meet their again from what I was able to understand through Jackies broken English. If that is the fact then WE need to support Marco Polo's with our business...and let them know why we are there.
If you call the Marco Polo, please be civil, speak your mind, but be nice to them.

Lastly, on their website they list "Opportunities to Serve". This made Keizer City Councilman Brandon Smith very interested. He wrote the following to me:

Here's an interesting fact: when you click on "Opportunities To Serve", it gives you to each governmental jurisdiction in the area. When you click on City Of Keizer, a pop-up window gives the home phone numbers of the mayor and each city councilor. I'm not clear how someone is serving the pro-abortion cause by calling me.

Oregon Economists Expand on the Negative
Effects of Measure 66 and 67 Tax Increases

Cascade Policy Institute just released a major economic study which uses two different methods to analyze the impact that the higher tax rates of Measures 66 and 67 will have on Oregon's economy if approved by voters on January 26. Written by two prominent Oregon economists, Drs. Randall Pozdena and Eric Fruits, the study concludes that:

Preliminary estimates made last June by Drs. William Conerly and Randall Pozdena of 70,000 jobs lost over time are entirely plausible and may even be conservative.

The study measures the likely economic impacts of the measures in these two ways:

1. Using a database spanning 31 years for the 48 continental states, the effects of tax rate increases on job growth are measured empirically using regression analysis. This exercise finds that the proposed tax rate increases will perpetually impair the rate of job growth in Oregon.

2. Using recent Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Statistics on Income (SOI) data, the pattern of migration of tax filers between Oregon and the other 49 states is examined statistically.

Among its conclusions, the study finds that:

The literature is clear that raising marginal tax rates is an impediment to economic growth and employment growth.
Between 47,000 and 55,000 jobs will be lost by 2018 from the increase in top marginal tax rates alone in the two measures. The study did not attempt to measure the job loss impacts caused from the phase-out of the federal tax deduction for higher incomes in Measure 66 or from the increased corporate minimum taxes in Measure 67.
Net out-migration of tax filers will be approximately 80,000 greater than otherwise over a ten year period. These lost filers are likely to have significantly higher incomes than the average tax filer. Again, this estimate is only based on the increase in top marginal rates, not on other features of the measures.
The average biennial loss in Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) from Measures 66 and 67 is approximately $1.1 billion dollars--50 percent higher than the $733 million first-biennial transfer of income from the private sector sought by the measures. Over ten years about $5.6 billion in AGI is expected to be lost. Such loses reduce the likelihood of the measures generating their full, anticipated revenue.
Finally, positive impacts of public infrastructure spending on state level output, if any, may be less than the negative consequences of suppressing private activity. In the literature, the case for raising taxes even to preserve education or health spending is not clear when the offsetting, long-run impacts on the private sector are considered. Raising taxes to preserve transfer payments has an even weaker justification when long-run impacts are considered. Thus, although maintaining public spending may seem to be a well-intentioned "safety net" policy, the result of diverting funds from the private to the public sector actually may prolong the return to prosperity of individuals affected by the recession.

The authors warn that even if the State does phase out the tax increases to some degree (as the measures contemplate), it may be difficult to undo the perception that Oregon selectively burdens business and higher-income households rather than prudently restraining State spending. This perception will weaken investment in the state and lead to even larger job losses and net out-migration of tax filers than their models predict.

Cascade Senior Policy Analyst and founder Steve Buckstein said this about the study: "Oregonians now have two independent ways to judge the economic impact of these tax measures. Both confirm that we are likely to lose tens of thousands of jobs and tens of thousands of the very people who invest in businesses and create jobs in our state."

"This study makes clear that Oregon may be embarking on a policy that will likely suppress and repel economic activity in the state. Doing this during good times would be bad enough. Doing it during one of the deepest recessions on record is very hard to understand."

Buckstein added that "Oregonians need to recognize that capital and people are mobile--especially the corporations and high-income individuals targeted by these two tax measures. If they move, Oregon loses the jobs that their companies, spending and investments create. Even for those who remain, these higher tax rates will reduce the motivation to work harder and create more jobs. The result will be damaging for countless Oregonians that tax proponents claim won't be affected by these measures."

You probably know by now that Avva Cigars and Wine in Salem was denied their "smoke shop" exemption in December. This is still being fought and will continue until the entire process has been used.
NOW I have received word through my sources that this is not the first time this has happened.
A great article in the Oregonian last week shows how the employees of the State Department of Health have taken upon themselves to define the law that the Legislature laid out for them. Not what the law says, but what they BELIEVE the law says!

I understand that Rich's Cigars in Portland was denied the first time as well and then was exempted after fighting this.
Broadway Cigars is "partially" exempt.
Other shops around the state have either given up or are in violation.

Jim Bernau, Willamette Valley Vineyards and the Bus redux

It seems Mr. Bernau, the CEO of Willamette Valley Vineyards is not happy with The Bill Post Radio Show. A very "threatening" letter came from his attorney telling Justin he should pull his blog entry about the bus. Justin did so to keep the radio station boss happy BUT, this was a pure and simple power attack by a large corporation.
This guy is STILL playing both sides of the political aisle.

Salem, OR – Senate Republicans announced a revised Back to Basics Budget Tuesday, saying that there were other alternatives to raising taxes or drastically cutting services in the midst of a historic recession. Republicans have been presenting alternative budget proposals to Democrats since last May.

“Republicans want to create jobs for the thousands of Oregon families that are struggling to find work, and at the same time we want to avoid service cuts during these difficult times,” said Senator Chris Telfer (R-Bend). “This budget says, ‘hey, there are other options that don’t involve business choking tax increases or service cuts.’”

The Back to Basics Budget plan consists of eleven points where savings and efficiencies through the remainder of the budget cycle can be used to balance the budget, instead of job-choking tax increases.

Back to Basics Budget:

1) Ask state employees to pay for their health care at the

same rate teachers currently do $131 million

2) Roll back the pay raises granted to state employees $160 million

3) Eliminate Department of Revenue costs to administer the tax increases $1.5 million

4) Eliminate duplicate funding for the Bureau of Labor and Industries $1 million

5) Eliminate state funding to the Portland Art Museum $0.31 million

6) Use over-collected funds from the Government Ethics Commission $0.5 million

7) Suspend part of the BETC credit $85 million

8) Suspend General Fund Spending on new “Autos & Aircraft” $5 million

9) Transfer some money from the State’s Risk Assessment Account $13 million

10) Use part of the $ 3 billion in “Other Fund” Ending Balances $133 million

11) Use part of the Education Stability Fund / Rainy Day Fund $203 million

“Should voters reject the tax increases, we can still protect our most important priorities like funding K-12, community colleges, universities and social services,” said Telfer. “For many voters, removing $733 million out of the economy and cutting another 70,000 jobs is a tough pill to swallow. This list of ideas I believe makes that point that there are other options out there. If we think creatively, we can protect jobs and core services.”

Last session, Republicans built a Back to Basics Budget using a philosophy that funds the most important, core services first. After creating a starting point that holds services like K-12 education, higher education, public safety agencies and human services providers harmless from any cuts from their 2007-09 funding levels, Republicans made targeted funding additions to protect vulnerable and needy Oregonians and ensure that new state troopers can continue patrolling streets and neighborhoods.

A Better Plan for Oregon

When lawmakers return to Salem in February they could be looking at a $733 budget hole. The hole can be filled while still funding education, from K-12 though community colleges and universities, at levels approved by the Legislature in 2009. The goal is to reduce the cost of government without reducing services to Oregonians.

The Plan:

Back to Basics Detail

1) State Employee Benefits - $131 Million - Much has been made of the fact that Oregon Public Employees do not contribute toward their health insurance premiums. The same cannot be said for teachers. The average teacher contributes $187.07 per month toward their health insurance. According to DAS, 47,054 employees receive fully paid health insurance. If each of those public employees paid the same as the average teacher, the state of Oregon would save $211 million per biennium or $131 million in what is left of the current biennium. Oregon is one of the only states that continues to offer fully paid health insurance to state employees. Elected officials at the state level are also included in this plan.

2) State Employee Pay raises - $160 million – Eliminate the pay raises granted by the Governor without legislative input. Would apply moving forward.

3) Tax Administration - $1.501 million – Eliminate the funding to the Department of Revenue to support additional work driven by an increase in corporate taxes. The money will not be needed if the taxes fail (House Bill 5054 – 2009).

4) Bureau of Labor and Industries Appropriation - $1 million – Remove appropriation from the Bureau of Labor and Industries that was given to the Commissioner’s Office, the Civil Rights Division, the Wage and Hour Division and Apprenticeship and Training. House Bill 5024 (2009) originally eliminated the funding. This money is in addition to the $642,861 appropriated to the Department of Justice for Civil Rights work (House Bill 5054 – 2009).

5) Portland Art Museum - $0.31 million – Remove appropriation to the Portland Art Museum from February 2009 forward. The original allocation was $500,000 (House Bill 5054 – 2009).

6) Reallocate Over-Collection by the Ethics Commission - $0.5 million – According to The Oregonian, the Oregon Government Ethics Commission is collecting $600,000 more during the 2009-11 biennium than they are authorized to spend. Reallocating $500,000 leaves the OGEC with $100,000 in reserve.

7) Suspend Part of the Business Energy Tax Credit - $85 million – Projections from the Legislative Revenue Office show the Business Energy Tax Credit will cost the state $167 million during the 2009-11 biennium.

8) Suspend General Fund Spending on new “Autos & Aircraft” - $5.497 million – The 2009-11 budget allocated $5.497 million in General Fund revenue for the capital purchases of “Automotive and Aircraft.”

9) State Risk Assessment Account - $13 million - $20.2 million was swept from this fund in 2009 and the fund is projected to have an ending balance of $63.5 million at the close of the 2009-11 biennium.

10) Transfer Excess Other Fund Balances - $133 million – With the release of the 2009-11 revised Other Fund Ending Balance we believe there are approximately $133 million, out of approximately $3 billion, that can be reallocated. Lawmakers reallocated $82.9 million in 2009 the plug another budget hole.

11) Education Stability Fund / Rainy Day Fund - $203 million – The Education Stability Fund and Rainy Day Fund are expected to contain $185 million and $127 million respectively at the close of the 2009-11 biennium.

Other Savings

The Department of Human Services has embarked on a plan to save over $500 million. The plan, called the Transformation Roadmap, has already saved $40 million and DHS should be encouraged to speed up the process. At the same time other state agencies should launch similar plans. What other efficiencies and savings could be found? It makes sense to increase efficiencies before we ask Oregonians to send more money to the state.

Dear Dr. Goldberg,

Sir, I am writing to gain clarity as to why AVVA Cigars and Wine has not been granted its exemption Status for on premise smoking rights. Using the Oregon Administrative Rules, (OAR 333-015-0025 through 333-015-0080), which implement Oregon Revised Statute ORS 433; I am confused as to why we have been denied our Smoke Shop Certification. I would like to believe that this is just a misunderstanding and that we can resolve this issue immediately; clearing the smoke if you will of opinion and prejudice.

I only mean to imply that there may be biases from your department to our industry based on my conversation with your co-worker Kylie Menagh, your Tobacco Community Programs Liaison. Although Kylie and I disagree on the effects of pipe and cigar smoking, she would be happy to know we are allies in the fight of cigarette smoking. I am grateful the state employs such enthusiastic program leaders.

Sir I would like to turn your attention to a section of the DHS web page regarding “Exceptions to the Law” I have interjected comments in red between stated points of the Law.

Exceptions to the Law

Exceptions to the law will include:

Smoking in certified smoke shops. Smoke shops must be certified by the Department of Human Services and abide by specific guidelines. Get application for smoke shop certification. We have filed this on several occasions now, which I have photocopies of. If you need these faxed to you, please call.

To qualify as a smoke shop, a business must:

Apply to the Department of Human Services and receive certification before allowing smoking on the premises. Again please let us know if you need further copies.
Acquire at least 75 percent of its gross revenue from tobacco sales every fiscal year

Currently our sales of Tobacco equals 82 – 83% of our gross sales

Prohibit persons under 18 years of age from entering the premises and post notice of the prohibition at each entrance and exit

Our Policy is to ID anyone/everyone who appears 25 or less. Our employees are trained on this policy.

Post signage at each entrance and exit stating that smoking is allowed on all or some of the premises

As certification is granted

Not offer video lottery games, social gaming or betting on the premises

No gaming/betting on premises

Not sell or offer on-premises consumption of alcoholic beverages

No sales of on premise consumption of alcoholic beverages

Be a stand-alone business with no other businesses or residential property attached to the premises

The office at Lancaster Mall has provided me with blueprints to show that this is a standalone building. I have forwarded this information to your office in the past and I am happy to do so once again. The configuration and seamlessness of the malls interior construction can seem a little confusing to an uninformed observer. It can appear as if the space occupied by AVVA could have been there from the beginning of the malls design. In fact it predates this wing of the mall. As originally constructed, this was a standalone liquor store for many years. The mall extended a wing and built a hallway and restrooms, adjacent to the back wall of the space now occupied by AVVA to enclose them, giving the appearance of a shared roof. So, this evening while searching Google Earth, I zoomed in on the mall and as I looked at AVVA it was very clear that this building has four distinct, non-shared walls. Additionally, due to the fact that AVVA is, in fact, a stand-alone building it has its own water and power feed as well as a discrete environmental control system, separate from the rest of the mall building. Were this not a distinctly separate building, this would not be so.

When I looked at the exemptions of other cigar stores, I am glad to see that the judgment and wisdom of your office has set a precedent to shops that can appear to touch each other, yet are in fact separate physical entities. As can be clearly seen now, we meet all the criteria not just in the spirit of the law but the letter of the law as well.

Dr. Goldberg, My belief that we qualify for an Exempt Smoke Shop is based is based in OAR definition as stated below:

Definitions

For purposes of OAR chapter 333, division 15, the following definitions shall apply:

(1) "Act" means the Oregon Indoor Clean Air Act as it appears in ORS 433.835 through 433.875 and 433.990(5).

Please note that Definition 2- 21 has been removed for brevities sake, as it is not applicable to us or our situation.

(22) “Smoke shop” means a business that:

ü Is primarily engaged in the sale of tobacco with at least 75 percent of gross revenues resulting from tobacco sales in every fiscal year;

ü (b) Prohibits persons under 18 years of age from entering the premises;

ü (c) Does not offer video lottery games as authorized under ORS 461.217, social gaming, or betting on the premises;

ü (d) Does not sell or offer on-premises consumption of alcoholic beverages; and

ü (e) Is a stand-alone business with no other businesses or residential property attached to the premises.

(23) “Wall” means any architectural partition with a height and length greater than its thickness, used to divide or enclose an area or to support another structure.

Smoke Shops

(1) A business must apply to DHS for certification prior to allowing smoking on the premises.

(2) A business must apply for certification on a form prescribed by DHS (this form is available on the Internet at www.healthoregon.org/tobacco or by calling the Public Health Division, Tobacco Prevention and Education Program) and the following information or documentation must be included:

(a) Documentation demonstrating that at least 75 percent of the smoke shop’s gross revenue is derived from the sale of tobacco products or smoking instruments; and

(b) Documentation, including written descriptions or visual aids, demonstrating that the smoke shop is a stand-alone business with no other businesses or residential property attached to the premises.

(3) DHS shall review application materials within 30 days of receipt and shall determine whether the application is complete.

(4) Within 10 days of an application being declared complete, DHS shall deny or grant the application. DHS shall grant a business certification if, upon review of the application materials, DHS finds that sufficient documentation has been provided to demonstrate the compliance with section (2) of this rule. In lieu of denying an application, DHS may request additional information from the applicant in order to determine compliance with section (2) of this rule.

(5) DHS may permanently deny the application for smoke shop certification if an applicant provides information that is false or deliberately misleading.

(6) Every year, within 30 calendar days from the date certification was originally granted, a smoke shop must provide DHS with documentation demonstrating that at least 75 percent of the smoke shop’s gross revenue is derived from the sale of tobacco products or smoking instruments.

Dr. Goldberg I do not need to quote statute to you, I do so here only for the sake of clarity. Please understand, I believe the issue here is misinformation. My purpose in writing this letter is to remove all barriers from running my business and allow AVVA cigar to cater to my clientele. This “misunderstanding” is costing me thousands of dollars a week. In a time when my incidental holiday sales should be strengthening my bottom line for 2010, shoring up the anticipated lean times, I am lost in a bureaucratic battle trying to defend my rights. My business is at stake… My sales are down 30%. I am a small business owner who employs five employees. This interference of un-fair, targeted and maligned injustice from DHS is an abuse of the trust we the people put into our government. I am in compliance with the letter and the spirit of the law.

You and I can resolve this in an afternoon. I am being pressured by my customers, my employees and close personal advisors to take this fight to the media and national press. Lars Larson is ready to go with this story to his national audience. This would be great advertising for me, but what does that do for the state and all of the stakeholders here? From the era of the Magna Carta forward the concept has been “Lex Rex”, the law is King; not “Rex Lex”, the King is Law.

I am reaching out to you sir as a citizen, a business owner a tax payer and a voter please share the mantel of service you chose when you became a public servant with AVVA, and do the right thing. We are in the right, we are in compliance and we have precedent on our side.

If you listen to my program you know that one of my best supporters and advertisers is Sadeeh the owner of Avva Cigars. If you have never met him, let me tell you, he is one of the kindest, gentlest, sweetest men I have ever known. He will do anything for anyone. Complete strangers are always welcomed with open arms by him.
Well as you may or may not know, when the Workplace Smoking Ban Statute was put into place on January 1st of this year, Sadeeh filed the necessary paperwork for an exemption (which is in the statute) as a smoke shop. He met the four criteria for being exempt. The State "lost" that paperwork.
So, come August, September and October the State then filed 3 complaints against the store for "violating" the law. Sadeeh RE-Filed the paperwork and hand delivered it along with supporting documents and more.
Tonight, he received a call from the lady at the Department of Health and Human Services, Jill Thompson and one of her underlings. They told Sadeeh his application was denied because the door from his store into the Lancaster Mall was too close to the food court. It's a long story but, trust me, it's over 50 yards AND the store has a reverse airflow that actually sucks the Mall air into the store, meaning NO smoke EVER goes into the Mall.
This State Worker also told Sadeeh that it was her "goal to end all smoking in Oregon" and when he asked who he could appeal to, she said "me" and informed him that "she would continue to deny it".
So, what is he to do?
If you care at all, even if you can't stand smoke, you have to believe in the rights of a business to do business. His business is down CONSIDERABLY since he shut down the smoking.
This is not about smoke it is about FREEDOM!!

Just read a story from the Eugene newspaper about the MAJOR party problems they are having in Eugene. It's not new, just at an all time high level. I love the Oregon Duck football team, but as I have said a million times, I wish I could pick up Autzen and move it to Keizer, Oregon! I hate Eugene and this article adds to my dislike!

The dozens of people, many of them under-aged, who walk the west and south university neighborhoods each night with open containers of alcohol are hardly an unfamiliar sight to Eugene police Lt. Angie San Miguel.

But even San Miguel, who’s in charge of the night shift Wednesday through Saturday, says she has been surprised by what she’s seen this fall.

“Honestly, I’d say in all my 18 years as a police officer here, the amount of people this year out and about drinking in public and displaying disorderly behavior is the worst I’ve seen,” she said.

The rough outline of where many central parties occur, San Miguel said, is between 13th and 17th avenues between Hilyard and High streets. More specifically, San Miguel said, police have had multiple problems on 14th Avenue from Patterson to Ferry streets, and from 15th and 16th avenues and Hilyard Street.

University of Oregon sophomore Kristina Lekas said she chose her Patterson Street apartment because of the area’s reputation for being a party hot spot. The 20-year-old said she and her three roommates have a party at least once a week.

It’s a good thing she likes to party, she said, because she’d be miserable otherwise.

“It would be impossible to sleep on the weekends if I wanted to,” she said. “Anyone who wants to go to sleep before 4 a.m.: Don’t live here.”

But Lekas said she and her friends are fine with the amount of partying that goes on. The same holds true for the west university neighborhood in general, she says, because it’s a college neighborhood.

“I’ve never seen someone over 25 here,” she said.

Lekas also said she sees at least one arrest outside her apartment every week.

The most common citations issued in the university neighborhoods are for minor in possession of alcohol and carrying an open container, San Miguel said.

Between Sept. 24 — the Thursday before fall classes began at the UO — and Nov. 19, officers issued 180 citations for minor in possession of alcohol — 27 in the south university neighborhood and 153 in the west university neighborhood, according to police department data.

During the same time period, police issued 141 open container citations, with four in the south university neighborhood and 137 in the west university neighborhood. Additionally, police arrested 13 people in the west university neighborhood in connection with open container offenses.

When intoxication levels go up, so does disorderly behavior, San Miguel said.

On weekends, San Miguel said, it’s not uncommon for officers to have a half-dozen party calls waiting for responses.

Police received about 125 noise complaints in the university neighborhoods from the start of school until Nov. 19, issued 26 citations for noise — 13 in each university neighborhood — and arrested one individual in connection with a noise violation.

“We get so busy with other parties and priority calls on the weekends that we can’t respond to half of the noise complaints we receive in a timely manner,” San Miguel said.

In the south university area, it’s mostly homeowners who make the noise complaints, but in the west university area, homeowners and students alike make the calls, San Miguel said. Police typically don’t break up parties unless they receive a complaint, she said.

“If we see a party with lots of people in the front yard, we’ll make contact,” she said. “But if a party is not bothering anyone, we typically don’t care.”

The most effective way to patrol the university neighborhoods is with officers on bikes, San Miguel said.

Generally, students are cooperative with police. “Some slam doors and don’t let us in,” she said. “But that rarely happens.”

Tommy DeVoe, a 20-year-old university junior and advertising major, said he sees numerous fights every week at his Patterson Street apartment. From what he’s seen, police seem to handle the hectic environment well.

“The police do a good job at it,” he said. “We’ve had no complaints here, and my friends have had no trouble. They do a good job for having a couple thousand college kids around.”

City of Salem saves Christmas Parade: Bah Humbug!

The annual Festival of Lights Parade in Salem will go on after all! During a late night emergency meeting of the Salem City Council last night, Mayor Janet Taylor made a motion to grant $10,000 (UPDATE: THE AMOUNT WAS ACTUALLY $25,000, NOT WHAT WAS ORIGINALLY REPORTED TO THE MEDIA!) from the city's contingency fund to help offset a budget shortfall.

Now I don't want to sound like the Grinch, but, I am a little concerned that "contingency funds" designated for "budget shortfall" was used. I love a parade. I love Christmas. I don't love misuse of funds and this to me, seems like a pretty silly way to use those emergency funds.
If the Festival of Lights group cannot raise the funds then the parade itself should not happen.
In this economic climate, do we really have the latitude to use money for a parade? Aren't there many more pressing issues that could have used this money?
Where were the brave city councilors when the Obama administration wanted to take OUR land away at Minto Brown Park? They were holding another late night meeting to give 200 acres to the Feds in exchange for $800k. Yes, that is the Salem city council hard at work.
Maybe THIS decision, was to help placate the residents? Bah Humbug!

It is not possible to directly measure the temperature at the centre of the Earth and four thousand degrees is nothing more than our most well-established piece of guesswork to date. Most modern calculations rely on the fact that we believe the inner core to be made up of iron and nickel that is just about at melting point. It is under a lot of pressure, which prevents it from melting, even at such high temperatures. There is also a lot of evidence regarding how the outer core of the Earth convects and that helps to establish the temperature.
Anyone who followed the controversy over Gore's piece of cinematic fantasy An Inconvenient Truth knows that Gore tells a lot of very convenient untruths in his quest to create a market for his carbon-trading company. However, this is just flat-out ignorance that with any other person in any other context would destroy their credibility. This is worse than Tom Cruise telling Matt Lauer that he can debunk the entire psychiatric field because he's read a few books. If Gore can't get this rather basic fact right, why should he be believed on anything else in the energy field?
This raises an obvious question: in a world where media fact-check a comedy skit and a book written by a former governor, shouldn't they equally scrutinize statements being made by a man who's actively pushing for the passage of economically impactful legislation currently before Congress?

Or is that asking too much from so-called journalists?

Consider that if Gore was a Republican, his numerous departures from fact would have so discredited him years ago that he would now be considered a total joke.

By contrast, because he's a Democrat who preaches liberal gospel, he can say whatever he wants without any regard for its accuracy and not only receive media's praise for his inexcusable errance, but an Oscar and a Nobel Peace Prize to boot.
By the way his school grades are very telling:
When John C. Davis, a retired teacher and assistant headmaster at St. Albans, was recently shown his illustrious former pupil's college board achievement test scores, he inspected them closely with a magnifier and shook his head, chuckling quietly at the science results.
"Four eighty-eight! Terrible" Davis declared upon inspecting the future vice president's 488 score (out of a possible 800) in physics.

"Hmmmm. Chemistry. Five-nineteen. He didn't do too well in chemistry."

Now, I'm not sure on all these, but I am certain there is no "00" district! Unfortunately, over 3 million dollars was spent there! Even if they mean Senate districts, there are only 30, so there are four on this list that don't exist.

I also find it interesting that there were 15.1 jobs created by $4,932,024 (326,624 per job). And $330,404 spent on 0 jobs "created or saved."

Also, according to the map, the vast majority of the funds are going to government agencies, and are not creating or "saving" any jobs. For example, the Department of Fish and Wildlife in Salem got $699,184 and "created or saved" 0 jobs. The Northwest Senior Disability Services got $125, 276 and "created or saved" 0 jobs. The City of Salem got $597,562 and "saved or created" 0 jobs. What are they doing with all this money?

They are either so incompetent that they cannot figure out how to correctly show where the money is going, or they think we are so stupid that we wouldn't notice this stuff.

This is the 20th Anniversary of one of the GREATEST Moments in Human History, the fall of the Wall in Berlin. Where is our President?
Here are the highlights of my thoughts on this issue for today's radio program:

President Obama squeezed in a trip to Copenhagen last month to lobby, unsuccessfully, for Chicago to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. He plans to travel to Oslo next month to accept the Nobel Peace Prize, an award that even Obama has said he does not deserve. And this coming week, he sets out on a weeklong tour of Asia.

But the president does not plan to travel to Germany to attend the 20th anniversary celebration Monday of the fall of the Berlin Wall, drawing heated criticism from those who say he's ignoring a shining triumph of American-inspired democracy.

"A tragedy," is how former House Speaker Newt Gingrich described Obama's absence.

Some question whether the decision not to go was a nod to Russia, with which the Obama administration is trying to mend relations, or just another attempt to play down the perception of the United States as an exceptional superpower.

For its part, the administration is citing a scheduling conflict. The White House says the president simply does not have the time to go, with the trip to Asia starting Wednesday.

"Obviously we have a lot to work on here and we have commitments for an upcoming Asia trip," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday, noting that a "very senior delegation" of U.S. officials would attend.

David Hasselhoff may seem at first an unusual person to be commenting on the fall of the Berlin Wall.

But the American actor and singer has a long association with the wall and the German public. In the summer before the wall fell, Hasselhoff's hit song Looking for Freedom was racing up the charts in West Germany.

'I have about 100 pieces of the wall and I also have one that's really special because it's got all the colours of the German flag, that I just chopped out look at this piece,' he told Reuters.

Hasselhoff was even part of a concert on New Year's Eve 1989 where he sang on top of the partly demolished wall at the Brandenburg Gate.

'I had an opportunity to actually sing behind the Wall before New Years Eve at a kind of a pre-concert. And I drove in 35 minutes into East Berlin and I went to the studio and the studio was magnificent it had the most beautiful lighting and the stage and the cameras, but outside it looked like World War II,' he said.

Now Hasselhoff is back in Berlin for the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall.

Obama acknowledged the anniversary of the fall of the wall last week during his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"We are now moving towards the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down and Germany being reunified after so many painful years," Obama said. "And this is a special moment for Chancellor Merkel, as somebody who grew up in East Germany, who understands what it's like to be under the shadow of a dictatorial regime, and to see how freedom has bloomed in Germany, how it has become the centerpiece for a extraordinarily strong European Union."

But some saw Obama's decision not to travel personally to Berlin as a snub to Merkel, Germany and the history behind the anniversary.

"Barack Is Too Busy," Germany's Der Spiegel magazine declared in a headline last month, writing that Obama had declined Merkel's invitation.

While Obama has traveled to Germany since taking office, he has not as president traveled to Berlin -- the site of his major speech in July 2008 during his overseas campaign tour. During that speech, he acknowledged Berlin's struggle, saying, "This city, of all cities, knows the dream of freedom."

Why then, critics asked, would the U.S. president not revisit that site to mark the culmination of that dream? After all, he has established himself as an intrepid traveler in office, setting off on a slew of overseas trips during his first 10 months on the job.

On several of the stops he has expressed regret for past American behavior, but the Berlin Wall anniversary was seen as an opportunity for the president to honor an American and Western victory for which the U.S. need feel no regret.

"It is a true shame that the president of the United States -- this man who cloaks himself in the rhetoric of hope -- won't be pausing to remember," Gingrich wrote in a column last week in The Washington Examiner.

The National Review's Rich Lowry wrote that the decision speaks to Obama's "dismissive view of the Cold War as a relic distorting our thinking."

"John F. Kennedy famously told Berliners, 'Ich bin ein Berliner.' On the 20th anniversary of the last century's most stirring triumph of freedom, Obama is telling them, 'Ich bin beschaftigt' -- i.e., I'm busy," he wrote. "Obama's failure to go to Berlin is the most telling nonevent of his presidency. It's hard to imagine any other American president eschewing the occasion."

Bill Church, the editor of the Statesman Journal, our local newspaper, continues the attack against local talk radio and in particular, yours truly (I can say that since I am the ONLY local talk radio "jock").

Now in this article he lumps me in with "unabashed racists" and others. I do not peddle hate, only if you hate how our country and in particular our state has devolved into what it has. I wouldn't call that hate anyway, I call it pointing out the obvious.
Showing us that "diversity" is all around us here in Salem is a fine thing to do, and yep, there is a lot of diversity. So, if we both agree on that, what the heck does that have to do with his other claims?
To quote from one of the comments left on the website:

"A census survey of business owners (done in 2002) showed Hispanic-owned companies generate more than $100 million in annual sales and receipts. There has been continued growth, which is why the Latino Small Business Conference is in its seventh year at Chemeketa Community College."

Just how much of that $100 million stayed in the United States, and how much was sent to Mexico?

A lot of the "minority" work here, make their money, then either take it or send it back to Mexico, so how does that benefit this state?

If they were legal citizens, then they pay their dues, but if they aren't, they are making virtually free money, while we pay taxes to help support them.

That is the question of the day, are they the legal ones that are generating the business?

Do they pay into the taxes for the schools to teach their non-English speaking children?

Its all in fairness that we need to look at these issues and say no freebies for anyone, everyone needs to pay their dues.

These are great questions, that I bring up all the time. Yes, we know there are a lot more minorities in Oregon, we are just asking, "are they paying their fair share?"

By the way Bill Church: we stopped being "jocks" back when the record players were hauled off in about......oh 1980? You are showing your lack of intelligence once again Bill.

They set up a camera to film the 40 days they are doing this vigil. No signs, no dead baby pics, just prayer. Well, here is what the "progressive" left does when those they don't agree with, don't play their game.

How SNL Could Change the 2010 Elections!

After you watch this SNL sketch, which has had heavy play on YouTube and everywhere it seems, take a look at my thoughts below:

Here's the thing: When I first saw this, I just thought it was pretty funny. I thought once again SNL has done a good job of political satire. Then it hit me, this sketch may have just completely opened the door for the Left to finally jump OFF the Obama bandwagon.
Why?
They now have permission to blast him! In the Left's eyes, what HAS he done?
The Anti-War folks are not happy with him. The pro-health care reform folks don't think he's moving fast enough. The far Left is not happy and the "from the Center" position President Obama has seemingly taken, is not what they wanted when they pimped hard for him.

Of course the Right thinks he is completely a leftist and that he is taking America down the road to ruin, and rightly so, but, until this SNL sketch came out, you never heard the Left attack him. Now it's come and it will get worse.

He was protested yesterday in New Orleans for not acting fast or hard enough for the victims of Katrina (sounds "Bushish" doesn't it?). He was protested by Anti-War folks in San Francisco yesterday for not keeping his promise to get us out of Iraq and increasing our presence in Afghanistan.

This will make 2010 even MORE fun won't it? I think the Left will sit on their hands and the Right will be more engaged then ever and this will bring about a complete change of hands in Congress and across the nation's gubernatorial races.
Between the 912 Projects, Freedomworks, Americans For Prosperity and all of the other Conservative grass roots movements going on in America, and the Far Left's anger at this president for not "delivering", we are going to see some real change in 2010. I don't think anyone would have seen this coming. Did you?

Who do YOU Worship?

You have heard of "tree huggers" right? How about "tree worshippers"? That's right, people who actually "worship" trees.
I found this video while trolling for another story and I couldn't resist.

Whether or not you feel we are truly in the "end times" (of course the "end times" have been the "end times" since the moment Jesus was caught into the clouds but let's forget that for the moment), this is a really, really scary video.
Let's look at Paul's writing in the book of Romans:
Romans 1:25 - THEY EXCHANGED THE TRUTH OF GOD FOR A LIE AND WORSHIPPED CREATED THINGS RATHER THAN THE CREATOR, WHO IS FOREVER, AMEN!

Note in the video they are lifting their hands in praise of the trees, just as we are commanded in Scripture to "lift Holy Hands" to God. Notice the holding hands in prayer towards the trees. Just as we are commanded to "pray unceasingly" to our Father in Heaven.
Note the comment about the "rock and all of the life it has". Remember when Jesus said in Luke 19:40 - "I tell you, if they keep quiet, the rocks will cry out".
Now, Jesus was of course saying, that if WE don't praise him, and we continue to withhold our worship of the True God, then the he'll allow the rocks to worship Him.
Of course He is being somewhat facetious, but the point is, WE don't worship rocks, they don't have life. God IS life, and we owe Him our worship.
Worship of created things is an abomination to God, a breaking of his Commandments and just plain STUPID!

I won't say this "scares" me, but it does drive home the point, that we are closer than ever to the return of Christ, Amen!

This photo released by Save the Ta-tas shows one of their T-shirts. The company also has hats. The T-shirts proclaim everything from "caught you lookin' at my ta-tas" and "I love my big ta-tas" for women to "my girl has great ta-tas" and "save a life grope your wife" for men.

You know, I am all for raising awareness of the horrible disease, Breast Cancer. I have done many a fundraiser over the years, have worn the pink hat or shirt, have even been involved in some of the "walks". This, this is TOO MUCH!
What has happened in our society that we just don't have any shame anymore!
Let me quote from the Associated Press story:

LOS ANGELES — A woman in a skimpy white bikini sashays next to a swimming pool. Onlookers gawk, men's tongues roll and music blares in the background.
The camera zooms in slow motion to her jiggling chest as a message spreads across the screen: "You know you like them / Now it's time to save the boobs."

It may resemble a beer commercial, but it's really a public-service announcement for Toronto's annual Boobyball party to benefit the charity Rethink Breast Cancer, and it's gone viral, with more than 350,000 hits on YouTube. It's just one of the edgier ways awareness is being promoted among younger women during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"Generally, with people my age, who watch MTV, there's no association between the breast and breast cancer. They think the boobs in beer commercials are different," said MTV News Canada host Aliya-Jasmine Sovani, 27, who stars as the bikini-clad gal and wrote and co-directed the clip.

"But everyone uses sexy imagery for commercials," Sovani said. "I thought guys would watch it because they would watch it naturally, and girls would like the humor and irony ... We all like boobs, we all celebrate boobs, so let's save the boobs."

Similar messages are showing up on feisty T-shirt lines and at events aimed at younger women. According to leading breast cancer organization Susan G. Komen for the Cure, about 5 percent of all breast cancer in the United States occurs in women younger than 40. Worldwide, about 465,000 women die from breast cancer each year.

Julia Fikse started her cheekily named T-shirt business Save the Ta-tas in 2004.

Her T-shirts proclaim "caught you lookin' at my ta-tas" and "I love my big ta-tas." Five percent of every sale goes to breast cancer research and awareness. About $340,000 dollars have been donated so far, Fikse said.

Men's involvement, noted Fikse, was paramount. Her company has T-shirts for men with slogans "my girl has great ta-tas" and "save a life, grope your wife."

"Men have an ability to take it into a sexual place very fast," Fikse said. "But you can turn an awkward, sexual conversation into something awesome about breast cancer awareness."

The tongue-in-cheek message makes a serious point, said Rethink Breast Cancer founder and executive director MJ DeCoteau: Information on breast cancer has been mostly directed toward older women.

"I remember grabbing a pamphlet with a 60-year-old woman on the cover. Another one had a dark shadowy woman facing the corner. It looked quite fearful," said DeCoteau, now 39. "Taking control of your breast health should be positive and upbeat."

Not everyone is comfortable with such boundary-pushing campaigns. Susan G. Komen for the Cure founder Nancy Brinker voiced reservations about using sexy imagery, though said she wouldn't discredit what anyone else does.

Sovani brushes off comments that her video may be inappropriate.

"Whether you love it or hate it, it gets people talking," she said. "Breast cancer is scary. We're not trying to take away from that. But preventing breast cancer doesn't have to be scary. If it's made to be scary, people don't want to check as much."

Ok, so we want MEN to stare at Women's chests now? One of the absolute worst things for a man to do, especially when he may want to remain as clean in his thought life as possible. Do men really need another reason to look? Do we not already as a society "sexualize" enough?
This offends me and I believe makes light of Breast Cancer Awareness.

A Year Without Hunting

This year, due to my son's knee injury in football and a combination of other factors, I could not go deer hunting.
Even though I know that an ENTIRE group of women at my church pray against me every year, I have for the most part had success.
Now I know, I don't hunt to put food on the table, those days are mostly long gone, but it is good to have some fresh deer steaks, chops and sausages. I will miss that this year.
More than the meat is the hunt itself. I have hunted Eastern Oregon and Western Oregon over the years and I find myself today, reminiscing about some of the fantastic times I had hunting with my Grandpa, Dad and Uncle over East.
Long walks through canyons and arroyos, with grandpa perched on a nice high spot at the end, Dad, Uncle Arnold and I would try to push a buck out of that area and down towards Grandpa.
One year we heard a buck running out in front of us, knowing it was headed right towards Grandpa's perch. A shot rang out, then another. Then a long silence.
My dad yelled out: "Papa, did you get him?" We didn't hear anything for a long time, so we hustled towards the end of the canyon.
When we got down there, we still couldn't see Grandpa. After another shout to him he calmly answered: "yep, he's right down there, drag him on up here for me!".
True to his word, he had shot a nice buck and we obediently dragged him up the canyon wall and got him dressed out.
I miss Grandpa and Uncle Arnold a lot and greatly look forward to seeing them both again in Heaven, but man, the smell of Fall in Oregon really makes me want to go hunting.
I hope to make those same sort of memories for my son.

The Oregon Legislature couldn't balance the budget like the rest of us do (cut excess, spend less, be careful), so they raised $733 million in new taxes that will drive small businesses from Oregon. NOW that WE the people got the 2 initiatives on the ballot for January, the NEA and the OEA, Teachers unions, are starting to do battle. This document came from inside the OEA.

Signatures Turned in to Put Tax Fairness on the Ballot
Some large corporations and out-of-state special interests opposed to the legislature’s tax fairness measures appear to have turned in enough signatures to force an election this January. In order to uphold these measures and preserve Oregon’s critical services, now is the time to get involved in the YES campaign. (Notice they say "appear to have turned in enough". Sheesh we needed 55,179 and got over 125,000 on each petition)

The two measures, which will likely be on the ballot in January, protect about $1 billion in funding for schools, healthcare, and public safety without making things more difficult for middle-class families.

Voting YES on these measures will preserve services by raising the $10 corporate minimum income tax for the first time since 1931. Right now, two-thirds of the corporations doing business in Oregon pay just $10 a year in income taxes, while the average family pays about $3,100.

When a single Oregon family pays more than 300 corporations combined, it’s time for a change. Voting YES on these measures will make Oregon’s tax system more fair for working families and will preserve schools and the essential services we all depend on. (Ah yes, it's always the old violin, "we'll lose schools....." How about balancing the budget with the money you already had, Democrats? How about the "hidden" money that is not HIDDEN!)

The YES campaign needs your help. The corporate-funded opponents may have millions of dollars to spend on misleading TV ads, but we have you. We need your help to reach out to voters to explain why a YES vote will protect schools and critical services by making our tax system more fair. Your voice will make the difference. (Again, look at the spin: "outside money". "Big corporation's money". So, if money comes from the NEA, SEIU & OPEU which have contributed huge sums in previous tax campaigns is not considered "outside money"? Hmmm...)

I am not advocating a third party, but, if Oregon does not find the right person to run against the blue jeans queen, John Kitzhaber, I will END my affiliation with the party.
WE MUST find someone articulate, educated, business savvy, well spoken and FIRED UP about this state.

I never cease to be amazed at the really stupid behavior of the left leaning and DESPERATE "anchors" on MSNBC. From that lunatic Keith Olbermann and his nightly ramblings to Chris Matthews and his "Hardball" "news" show.
Now, the majority of the books on the New York Times best seller list are Conservative leaning. Why? BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE ARE BUYING!! Sheesh, how dumb do you have to be to struggle with that concept? Why then, would Chris Matthews complain about the books currently on the list? BECAUSE NO ONE FREAKING BUYS THE BOOKS HE LIKES!!!

Then this caricature-on-legs slithered out of it. Seriously you could smell the sleazy boss hog cologne and cigar smoke from twenty feet away. Can you say union thug-o-crat?
Sometimes you just can't believe your eyes...or make this stuff up. I had to cough to keep from just laughing out loud....

My War with the local Newspaper: Statesman-Journal

My ongoing war with the Statesman Journal newspaper, our local fish wrap, has reached new highs (no pun intended).
Today's paper featured an article stating, in big bold letters: "HELICOPTERS A HEADACHE FOR FAIR NEIGHBORS".
In the article, which by the way was done by a young lady who showed up the day before to ask questions about what "our helicopters" were doing and how it was doing. She was bent due to my blasting an article in the paper that day.
I KNEW that she would come back with some kind of story that's how they work.
I quote the story below and then give my rebuttal:

It's hard to miss one of the new attractions at the fair. Helicopter rides — $20 for about five minutes — are part of the sesquicentennial celebrations going on at this year's Oregon State Fair, to the delight of fairgoers and the dismay of fairgrounds neighbors.

Galit Miller, a school administrator for Leading Edge Aviation, estimated that the company has been running about 80 flights per day.

Alan Scott, the chairman of the Northeast Neighbors neighborhood association, said he has received about five complaints, mostly regarding the noise the copter makes during takeoff and landing.

"Our concern is how do we prevent this noise in the future?" Scott said. He said he's been in contact with two other neighborhood associations that also have received complaints.

He said neighbors weren't given enough advance warning about the helicopter rides, finding out only about one week before the fair.

"What we'd like to be able to do is sit down and discuss options," Scott said. "We're not sure why they come over the neighborhoods to land and not over the fair."

Connie Bradley, the acting manager of the fair, said she's taken note of the complaints and already is making changes.

"This week, we are only going to run the small helicopter during the week," she said, adding that during the weekend, they also were using a larger, louder helicopter.

She said they will also stop flights at 6 p.m. for weekdays and change the flight patterns so they're not always flying over the same houses.

And, she said, fair neighbors just have to make it through this fair — the helicopters won't be a yearly attraction.

"This is just kind of a one-time deal," she said. "We're not doing this every year. … It was part of our big birthday celebration."

Although she said she had met with all the neighborhood associations in July to let them know about the helicopters, she conceded it could get old quickly.

"I'd probably be annoyed after a little while, too," she said, as a helicopter shadow crossed the parking lot outside her office.

A city noise ordinance does not apply to the helicopters, said Brady Rogers, administrator of Salem's neighborhood enhancement division.

"Flying in your plane is just like driving down the street in your car," Rogers said. "You have a right to do it."

Rogers said the fair worked with the Federal Aviation Administration to allow the copters to land on the fairgrounds. Officials with the FAA could not be reached Monday.

Ok so first of all: the fair director never said what was quoted (I talked to her personally today). Second, there are over 1,000 people who have had a WONDERFUL time riding a helicopter and only FIVE neighbors have complained? These are the same pathetic people that cost us the horse racing (too loud) great late night concerts (too loud) and the same people who do all of this complaining living next door to an institution that has existed in the same location for about 100 years?
Give me a break.
So far the comments on their website have been about 99% positive towards our helicopters.
I talked with a 103 year old man who just took a ride and he was so thrilled, I wish you could have seen him.
In this economy, SOMEONE, ANYONE has found a way to profit and at the same time give a thrill of a lifetime for $20! How can anyone knock that?

The Salem Town Hall Meeting with Kurt Schrader

Your intrepid reporter was there! Although I fell asleep half way through as Mr. Schrader is rather long winded and boring as heck.

What I came away with was: about 2/3rds of the crowd were Conservatives concerned with Obamacare and a small segment were what really looked to me like OLD HIPPIES.
Yes, old hippies. I didn't know they still existed. The evidence is the bus pictured above. Oh, and a large group of Illegal Immigrants holding signs for "immigration reform".

They were the only ones to applaud when Rep. Schrader said ANYTHING PRO health care reform.
For the most part Rep. Schrader repeated the mantra heard all over the country and covered NO new ground. The crowd seemed mostly restless and not satisfied and by the time it broke up, I felt NOTHING had been accomplished.

The funniest thing of all was watching Dick Hughes, the editor of the Statesman Journal trying to control the crowd and being in charge of sound. Never let a newspaper man run sound. NO ONE could hear the questions, he just wouldn't turnthe mic up other than when he had some wiseacre crack to make. He was NOT funny.

All in all, I think the Democrats have really lost on this one and are in full fledged retreat mode. It's ONE TERM AND OUT FOR PRESIDENT OHbama.

Blowing the Lid off of a Closet Liberal

Today's show was supposed to be our usual "Wednesday Whine" which is an open line day for any topic.
So, thinking in that direction, we had one little follow up story that just blew up into a HUGE story.
We were told by a listener that there was a bus at the McMinnville David Wu Town Hall meeting Monday night that was, as the listener described, "filled with Obama Health Care supporters with ACORN connections and the bus was sponsored by Willamette Valley Vineyards". We carefully asked for the caller to prove that in some way.
Well, just minutes before we went on the air, he emailed pictures of the bus and boy did that start a firestorm.

"THE BUS" is part of an offshoot of ACORN called: The Bus Project and Politicorps which are EXTREME left wing groups which on their own website say: "to elect Progressives to the offices in swing areas".
As the show continued the CEO of Willamette Valley Vineyards called in to us. He was on vacation and apparently his employees called him to let him know what was going on.

We started getting more and more calls and emails AFTER his call and so we had to go an extra hour.
We found out that he was not quite as innocent as we at first suspected.

From Enterprise to Salem: "What are you guys doing?"

I spent the last weekend in beautiful Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa Lake, Oregon. As I walked around the Wallowa County Fair (which by the way, was exactly like the county fairs I grew up with), the word got out that I was some sort of talk show host. Though I am on a Salem station, I guess someone, I am sure a complete nutjob, had heard of me. The questioning then began. "What is going on with you crazy Valley people?" and other similar queries.

It seems the folks in Wallowa County are actually CONSERVATIVES, and they don't understand nor do they care for us "city folk" and the "stupid decisions" being made here in the Willamette Valley.
I carefully explained to them "IT'S NOT ALL OF US, PLEASE!!! I told them how basically FOUR Valley counties rule our entire state and those 4 counties HATE anything that remotely smacks of God, America or Conservatism.
That didn't seem to placate them, but at least they understood that not ALL of us over here in the Willamette Valley are completely nuts! They just wanted to know why "we", meaning residents of the Willamette Valley, were letting the Legislature and Governor Kulongoski get away with all that they did in the last session. They understood very clearly how devastating the new tax increases, JOB KILLING TAXES, really are. One might think "aw heck those people are nothing but a bunch of redneck cowboys who couldn't spell their own names". One would be correct, at least that is what THEY think WE think! No, au contraire, they are REALLY smart people and they know a stinker when they see one and that is why they continue to elect some of the smartest people in Oregon, to the Legislature.

The good people of Wallowa, Union, Baker and other rural counties just feel like they have been left completely out of the political picture. Sure they are few, but aren't they still Oregonians? Why must we live with a system that allows 4 counties to run this entire state? Please, someone enlightnen me?

After the beer summit, President Obama, Sergeant Crowley, and Professor Gates all walked out of the White House together. Well sort of together. A picture says a thousand words, doesn't it:

The way powerful people treat those who have less power than they do said volumes about them. In this case, this picture tells us that the president simply can't be bothered to help his infirm friend down the stairs and instead leaves that task to the very police officer he belittled in front of the entire nation. This question is just begging to be asked: who's acting stupidly now?

Thomas Lifson at the American Thinker offers his remarks and notes that it's an apt metaphor for the president's health care plan:

I think this photo constitutes another major Obama blunder.
As some AT commentators point out, this picture becomes a metaphor for ObamaCare. The elderly are left in the back, with only the kindness of the Crowleys of the world, the stand up guys, to depend on. The government has other priorities.

One of the major subtexts of the health care debate involves the public's fear of indifferent, powerful bureaucrats ruling their lives. It is one thing to wait in line at the DMV to find out which other line you should wait in, in order to begin the process of waiting for multiple bureaucrats to go through the motions of processing your request. I have spent entire afternoons going through this process.

But when we get to health care, waiting often means enduring pain and dysfunction longer than necessary, sometimes a worsening of the condition, and sometimes death.

That's why I think this image will have genuine resonance. It captures something that older Americans in particular can relate to. The President presses ahead with a program that will tell them to take painkillers instead of getting that artificial hip.

I may not like the guy, but I am really tired of all the emails trying to convince me that President OHbama is NOT an American.
These are conspiracy theories started on the web by "birthers". They are the same people we used to call "Birchers", and they are all nuts. He was born in Hawaii, and as a former resident of that state, I know the Birth Certificates are handled, and look differently then the mainland states.

Here is a great editorial from the National Review, probably the most respected Conservative Journal in America;

Pres. Barack Obama has a birthday coming up, a week from Tuesday. We hope he takes the day off—or even the whole week, the briefest of respites from his busy schedule of truncating our liberties while exhausting both the public coffers and our patience. The president’s birthday comes to mind because we recently spent some time looking at a photograph of his birth certificate, being held by Joe Miller of Factcheck.org, who took the time to examine it.
President Obama was born on August 4, 1961, at 7:24 p.m, in Honolulu County, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. The serial number on his birth certificate is 010641. Baby Barack’s birth was not heralded, as some of his partisans have suggested, by a star in the east, but it was heralded by the Honolulu Star, as well as the Honolulu Advertiser, each of which published birth announcements for young Mr. Obama.

Much foolishness has become attached to the question of President Obama’s place of birth, and a few misguided souls among the Right have indulged it. The myth that Barack Obama is ineligible to be president represents the hunt for a magic bullet that will make all the unpleasant complications of his election and presidency disappear.

We are used to seeing conspiracy theories from the Left, for instance among the one in three Democrats who believe that 9/11 was an inside job conducted with the foreknowledge of the Bush administration. We’ve seen everything under the sun blamed on Dick Cheney and Halliburton, and Rosie O’Donnell has given us much mirth with her metallurgical expertise, while Andrew Sullivan has beclowned himself and tarnished the good name of The Atlantic with his investigation into the “real” parentage of Trig Palin. Most notable, the Iraq War summoned the craziness in a big way, and there are those who still shudder over their espressos at the mention of the Carlyle Group. And there is a fair amount of crossover between those fixated on Obama’s birth certificate and the 9/11 “truthers” — lawyer Phil Berg, for instance, is a player in both worlds. There is nothing that President Obama’s coterie would enjoy more than to see the responsible Right become a mirror image of the loopy Left circa 2003.
The birth-certificate business is not a uniquely conservative phenomenon; the allegation that Obama was born in Kenya seems to have originated with a Hillary Clinton supporter at a blog called The Blue State. Either way, this fantasy is not particularly widespread within the conservative movement, but it has attracted enough interest that it needs to be addressed.

The fundamental fiction is that Obama has refused to release his “real” birth certificate. This is untrue. The document that Obama has made available is the document that Hawaiian authorities issue when they are asked for a birth certificate. There is no secondary document cloaked in darkness, only the state records that are used to generate birth certificates when they are requested.

If one applies for a United States passport, the passport office will demand a birth certificate. It defines this as an official document bearing “your full name, the full name of your parent(s), date and place of birth, sex, date the birth record was filed, and the seal or other certification of the official custodian of such records.” The Hawaiian birth certificate President Obama has produced—the document is formally known as a “certificate of live birth”—bears that information. It has been inspected by reporters, and several state officials have confirmed that the information in permanent state records is identical to that on the president’s birth certificate—which is precisely what one expects, of course, since the state records are used to generate those documents when they are requested. In other words, what President Obama has produced is the “real” birth certificate of myth and lore. The director of Hawaii’s health department and the registrar of records each has personally verified that the information on Obama’s birth certificate is identical to that in the state’s records, the so-called vault copy. Given that fact, we are loath even to engage the fanciful notion that President Obama was born elsewhere, contrary to the information on his birth certificate, but we note for the record that his mother was a native of Kansas, whose residents have been citizens of the United States for a very long time, and whose children are citizens of the United States as well.

The attention paid to President Obama’s place of birth is not unprecedented. In fact, it may be the only thing President Obama has in common with Pres. Chester Arthur, whose opponents whispered that he had been born in Canada. A number of unsuccessful presidential candidates—George Romney, Barry Goldwater, and Lowell Weicker among them—actually were born outside of the United States (in Mexico, the Arizona Territory, and Paris, respectively) to American parents and thereby into American citizenship. If the conspiracy theorists have evidence that President Obama went through the naturalization process, let them show it. But there is no such evidence, because this theory is based on unreality, as two minutes’ examining the claims of its proponents reveals. The hallmark of a conspiracy theory is that a lack of evidence for the theory is taken as yet more evidence for the theory. Indeed, the maddening thing about dealing with conspiracy hobbyists of this or any sort is the ever-shifting nature of their argument and their alleged evidence: Never mind the birth certificate, his step-grandmother said he was born in Kenya! (No, she didn’t.)

One of the unfortunate consequences of this red-herring discussion is that there are plenty of questions about Obama’s background and history that we would like to have answered. In spite of two books of memoirs, there remain murky areas in his biography. And when it comes to those college transcripts, count us among those who’d love to know whether Dr. Bailout ever took an advanced economics class and how he performed in it.

Barack Obama may prefer European-style socialized health care. He may consider himself a citizen of the Earth and sometimes address his audiences as “people of the world,” as though he were born not in another country but on another planet. Like Bruce Springsteen, he has a lot of bad political ideas; but he was born in the U.S.A.

Oregon, the home of self service gas, legislature that only meets every two years, high income taxes (second only to New York City), the leader in assisted suicides and of course one of the leaders in the abortion industry, now is in the business of growing WEED!
At the last minute as the Legislature was "getting outta Dodge" they passed a bill that would allow the production, commerce and possession of "hemp" products and add industrial hemp to crops grown by farmers.

YES I know this isn't Pot, but it's close enough for me.
